ABOUT ME

My name is Ryan and have been married for 27 years to the most amazing wife(Jennifer) and have 3 totally Awesome kids. We love to live life out of the box and try new things. Spencer is 24 and loves art, anime, puzzles, playing drums in his band Black Daisy. He also likes helping people, and scratching off items on his bucket list. Rebekah is 21 and also loves art, anime, dancing and horror movies. She always makes people feel good about themselves. Rebekah and her husband Liam along with Spencer and 5 other roomates live in another house 400 ft away on the acreage. Our oldest son John who we adopted 23 years ago is 32 and he turned us into 30 something Grandparents. John and his wife Shelby now have 3 kids and we see them often. We are currently getting ready to go to on our long awaited trip to visit Africa and climb Mount Kilimanjaro. We have lived in Canada and Panama. We have traveled throughout North America, especially in Mexico and the United States, Europe and some of Asia. We are members of The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saint family who love to travel and enjoy road trips.

PHILOSOPHY

I live by the golden rule and try to help someone every day in some little or big way. I believe in Donating the Difference (Save $$ on anything like CS or save some time and donate all or a portion of the Difference) and Paying it Forward. We are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and wish everyone to enjoy life to the fullest and find the plan of happiness as we have.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have always embraced the couch surfing ethos as we have opened our home to people long before we new about this website. We used to live in a tourist town where we had many people that would stop by and visit. Being that we live on an acreage out of city limits for the past few years, we have had few Couch requests, but our door is open even if you just need a quick stop due to layover. Have for the most part only been able to give advice to others visiting my area. We are always excited to meet new people or help in anyway we can.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have surfed a few times and it was a great experience. Before we learned about CS we ran an animal rescue in Panama and we would have anywhere from 4 to 16 people who would stay and volunteer. Some would be there for the weekend and others more than a month, so needless to say, the concept is not foreign to us at all. That was a great time in our lives to meet so many amazing people. Being that we have lived on an acreage for the past few years, we have had almost no Couch requests, but we finally had our first opportunity to host and it was fantastic. Have for the most part only been able to give advice to others visiting my area. We are always excited to meet new people.

Interests

Learning almost anything or teaching someone something, travel, self sufficiency, Playing games(Disk Golf, cards, board games) with friends, my kids, EATING, going to shows and concerts, hiking, biking, dancing or name that tune, the beach, helping people.

Music, Movies, and Books

Lately we have been listening to Arkells, Jake Bugg, CCR and Jukebox the Ghost. We love to go to concerts. Watching movies is a favorite thing for us too. Usual Suspects, Shawshank Redemption, Memento and LOTR. Jennifer and the kids read much more than I do (They used to each read 50 books a year).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Still have tons to do, but here are a few highlights.

Married to Jennifer when I was 21. It's been 28 yrs now and every year it gets better.

Climbed Volcan Baru, Panama when Rebekah was 8. Ranger said that she was the youngest he has seen to do it. It's the highest point in Panama where you can see the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans.

Teach, Learn, Share

As members of CS I think that we should all be focused on Donating the Difference (Save $$ and time on anything like CS and donate all or a portion of the Difference) and Paying it Forward. We lived in Panama for almost 7 years and love to talk to people about experiencing different cultures and we are now back in Canada. We also home schooled our children and like to help other people that are interested in taking their children's education into there own hands. We ran an animal rescue for a few months and really had a great time there. It was one of our greatest experiences. I am interested in learning more about places that I have never been to or learning new skills. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I love having open minded conversations about different ideologies once in a while.

What I Can Share with Hosts

We love to cook and share a meal. Sharing life stories is always enjoyable. I'm quite good at helping people with how to save $$ and understand how $$ works. Helping people with their relationships. My wife can lead a basic yoga class and helps many parents with home schooling.
