About Me

CURRENT MISSION

It's a small world and I plan to make it smaller

ABOUT ME

I'm a social creature; I love having people around the house and sharing my world and my city with open hearted people. I find most people I meet enrich my life in some small way. If you can receive with grace, and give what you have to give, you are welcome in my home.

PHILOSOPHY

Oh, well since you asked...
- Being a kid. Playing. Learning from kids. (Kids are very wise, especially on how to have fun and how to be.)
- Being an idiot. One really shouldn't take oneself too seriously...
- Being foolhardy. Taking risks, trusting others even when it might hurt, and being open to scary new experiences keeps life fresh!

Now I realise I've gotta stop philosophising before I fill the page... but last of all I believe that hope is the most wonderful thing we can possess and is also the thing that can never be taken from you. Since most religions seem to be about elevating and externalising hope, I suppose that means I believe in most religions as well. Well, except for the bits where hope gets turned into a sentient being who takes responsibility for your life. That's one thing I won't delegate!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Generally I host. And I host well. When I trust you I'll share a lot with you.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I host quite a lot. I've surfed a few times too. I've hung out with the CS communities in various cities. In Amsterdam I was even part of a film doco on Couchsurfing. I love this site and the people it attracts. I mean, who would be silly enough to let complete strangers into their homes like this? Me! And you! These silly people are the people I love.

Interests

New experiences, new people, learning ever learning.

Surfing, playing chess, skiing, ice skating, dancing, falling over, playing tennis, getting up again, finding new bars before my friends do, reading, dancing more, pushing boundaries, fine dining, crappy dining, meeting new people and learning stuff, rock climbing, shagging, making music, getting lost, listening to music really loud, playing in playgrounds, going to parties, going overseas all the time, scuba diving, playing guitar, climbing trees, going into places I shouldn't, getting scared, buying bizarre liqueurs, talking my way out of trouble, random kindnesses, being intense, going to festivals, buying clothes, bike riding, and everything else, except TV, which turns your brain to moussaka.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Always changing but this'll do... Beirut, Nyman, passionate classical, hard trance, anything that sounds really loud on my new car stereo, Kid Koala, Bowie's "Joe the Lion" cos it's so emotive, Lemon Jelly, Dub Pistols, Modest Mouse, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Scissor Sisters, Waz E. James, Veruca Salt, Smog, Arcade Fire, Cat Power, St Germain, Calexico, Decoder Ring, Sufjan Stevens when his band members realise they're not playing solo, the sound of a piano wire strung between two churches which I heard on the Melbourne PBS show "of ambience and atmosphere" once, and the derelict who plaintively sings "jesus blood never failed me yet" over and over again, also from that show, from which I will never fully recover.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sat in the midnight sun on the mountain outside the world's northernmost town Longyearbyen, and watched as the sun refused to go down but instead circled around the sky, reindeer grazing below. Apparently you're supposed to bring a gun when you go wandering out of Longyearbyen but I didn't get eaten by no polar bears that day.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'll teach you to make a decent coffee. But if you already know, that's just great too (could you make one for me?). I also know Melbourne's funky hidden bar scene pretty well, might be able to take you surfing if time permits, am up with the festivals etc. You'll love it here.
