About Me

Hello :) I was born in Vienna, Austria and lived there until I was five. Then my family (and I) moved to Australia. We lived for a year in Canberra, where I have many relatives, before moving to the North East coastal area of NSW. The closest town to where I live that is reasonably well known is Byron Bay which is right on the coast and in fact the most easterly point of Australia. I grew up in that area and eventally did my degree in Marine Science at Southern Cross University. At the age of 24 I got myself a working holiday visa for the uk and started traveling. I spent almost three years traveling before coming back to Australia again and doing another degree in teaching. For the next years I had periods of working for up to a year fulltime as a teacher intermixed with periods of traveling. My travels have taken me through many places in Europe and short stint in South Africa and also a good portion of South East Asia plus a few other spots briefly. In 2012 I came to Europe for another trip and with plans to stay here for a longer time. Indeed I have grown some substantial roots back here in my country of birth Austria, especially after I became a father in 2013. My daughter is wonderful! Now at the age of 33 I am living in Austria and will stay here for the foreseeable future.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Traveling and meeting people is one of my big passions. Couchsurfing is a great way of doing them both. I think Couchsurfing is a fantastic example the social benefits that the internet and social media are capable of creating, i.e. bringing like minded or diversely minded people together and allowing them to share ideas, knowledge and couches.

Interests

Right now I am very much into history. I like all sorts of history but especially world history and looking at the story of mankinds development through the ages. Along with my interest in history has come a growing interest in politics and trying to understand how and why the world is in its current situation. Its something I am interested in but dont worry its not something I feel the need to constantly talk or debate about.

I very much enjoy reading informative books and watching documentaries.

I love to play various sports especially soccer and frissbee. I can be a big outdoors person and love to see beautiful natural environments and spend time in them, but I can also be very happy sitting around in a comfy spot just reading or talking or playing music.

I play a little guitar, I love rythm and drums and I find participating in music is a very worthy use of time.

I like food. Especially healthy food. Cooking it is fun. Eating it is hilarious.

Music, Movies, and Books

Very difficult to pin down favourite music types. Different melodies for different moods. I do especially enjoy music that is instrumental but with that said I really like good electonic stuff too. Some groups that come to mind are John Butler, Angus and Julia Stone, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Santana, Gotye, Bag Raiders, Bastille, Peter Tosh, London Grammar and Iron and Wine, to name a few.

I like many types of movies. Any really that tell a good story and have good acting. Movies that I dont like are ones that too predictable or claim to tell a story from history but are not accurate. As I said I really enjoy a good documentary.

I wish I had time to read more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Apart from becoming a father.... Traveling through India, climbing Mt Toubkal the highest mountain in Morocco, running a marathon, cooking spaghetti bolognese for like 25 people and it turned out really yummy.

Woops, just realised thats five things not one. Well Ive written them now so I cant very well just delete them.

Teach, Learn, Share

I like doing all those things :)
