About Me

CURRENT MISSION
The past couple of years I've been fortunate to travel to Europe several times with a good friend of mine. Spain, France (twice, different places), Switzerland, and Italy just earlier this year in the spring.
Unfortunately I have no major international traveling planned for the rest of the year but am hoping to get out again to travel next year sometime.
In the meantime, I am trying to see areas surrounding my beautiful state of Utah in shorter trips. Hoping to meet some new couchsurfing friends along the way if possible!

ABOUT ME

I grew up in Hawaii on the island of Oahu, what a great place! I've now lived in Utah for quite some time, but love to go back and visit "my island" as often as I can.
I am in the IT industry and enjoy doing that. I have also done some real estate investing on the side.
I have a good education, I have earned 4 degrees (2 IT, 1 music and 1 business master). While I value those, I equally value the many other experiences that life has taught me along the way.

PHILOSOPHY

What comes around goes around. If you are kind and friendly to others you will eventually receive it back. The golden rule.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have experience both hosting and traveling with CS.

I have couch-surfed in many of the places I've traveled to - Italy, France, Switzerland, and Guatemala. I have enjoyed every surfing experience so far! I wish I could travel more and meet more awesome couch surfing hosts (or just friends) on the road. I have had nothing but good experience so far both hosting guests and being one. :)
I would like to travel to many of the states surrounding Utah and get to know couchsurfers in these areas also and see what great things these states have to offer!

As far as hosting myself... its complicated. I have a house in Provo which is about an hour south of Salt Lake City (SLC), but I work in SLC so spend most of my time there and usually end up hosting people with my good friend Leandro Soria in his house. Check out his profile and most of the surfers he has hosted we have done together.

So I don't have as many hosting references for myself on my profile, but have already had many great hosting experiences at my SLC home (Leandro's) and hope to continue to have many more! I LOVE hosting international surfers, there is such a wealth of things to learn from each and every one!
We've already had the pleasure of hosting surfers from France, Switzerland, Belgium, Russia, Italy, Germany, Poland, Canada, Costa Rica, Brasil, and of course USA. :-) There's probably more I'm forgetting.
Every surfer we've hosted has something to offer us, and us to offer them! It is a great exchange and so interesting to learn about each other's cultures.

Interests

Things I love to do:
Travel (as much as I possibly can!) both in the US and to other countries.
Watch sports (especially professional TENNIS!).
Watch movies often (US and international foreign-language movies)
Listen to music of all kinds.

Music, Movies, and Books

So many, where to even start... :-)
- I watch TONS of movies, I borrow them on DVD from my local library - I tend to stay pretty current on new movie releases.
I like many musical extremes as well - everything from hard rock/metal to classical to big band/swing. I like to experiment with newer music, but always in the end gravitate back to the "old school" stuff. It was just all better back then.
Some of my faves of note:

Rock: AC/DC, Rush, Boston, Van Halen, Led Zep, Foreigner, Styx, Journey, Motley Crue, Ministry, you know - all the 70's/80's rockers thru many of today.
Everything 80's (rock and pop) - I'm an "expert" in 80's music.
I can sometimes get in the mood for classical (the softer side of me) and relaxing piano music (I play piano and trumpet). I own a lot of classical music.
Not much of a fan of country or rap, although I can be "tolerant" of both. :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Just one????
- Walked on the Great Wall of China in Beijing.
- Walked on the beach of a small uninhabited island in the middle of the South Pacific (part of Tonga). I was visiting my friend's family in Vava'u and we got there by his family's small boat and spent the day there.
- Climbed to the top of Angels Landing in Zions National Park (at least 10 times... so far).
- Seen the majestic and powerful waters of Niagara Falls
- Rode the famous cable car in Hong Kong to Victoria Peak
- Walked through the Colosseum in Rome, as well as other Roman ruins
- Walked on the very beaches in Thailand (Phuket) where the devastating tsunamis hit in 2004, I was there a few years before it happened.

ALL of these are completely different yet incredibly amazing experiences!
I could easily add dozens of more things to this list too.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to share my culture, both my Hawaiian heritage and my American side.
I am a fun-loving person, sometimes a little shy at first but if I meet interesting people I love to talk and share and especially learn about others and their life experiences.
When I travel, I am there to see the touristy stuff (aren't we all), but I am also very much there to experience the local culture and see how different lives are (and the way people live) in other parts of the world.

We ALL have experiences to share, it is just a matter of being willing.

Also, Salt Lake City is home to some of the greatest snow on earth! Even though I come from a beach island and surfing mindset (hehehe...) I like skiing and snowboarding (I mostly board) and am familiar with most of the ski resorts around - there are 7 within an hour's drive from Provo... even more (and closer drive) from Salt Lake City. I occasionally have discount tickets or vouchers to some of them as well in the winter. Skiers/boarders are welcome to come stay a night or 2 and help offset the high cost of skiing! I am usually better able to host in SLC though during the week for this.
