About Me

Hello fellow Couchsurfers! (◕‿◕✿) I haven't been here in a while but I'm back now ~

My name is Dorothy and I'm from Malaysia. Nice to meet you! I'm a university student and I'm majoring in Psychology. North Borneo is my birthplace but I enjoy escaping reality once in a while. It would be a pleasure to make friends from all over the world! ( ・ὢ・ )

At the moment I am on sem break, so I figured I would take some time off to travel. It has always been my dream so I took up many jobs to save up for it, but then the pandemic hit so it was put on hold. One fun fact about me is that I have taken up around 10 different jobs (part-time & full-time) and 2 (paid) apprenticeships in the last 5 years since I graduated high school! As a result, I’m always burnt out because I also study for my degree full-time simultaneously (sometimes the jobs even overlap so in one semester I can have up to 3 part-time jobs) 🥲

Anyway, here’s a toast to the start of my journey in chasing my dreams of living instead of surviving! 😭 I hope to meet many wonderful people here, and I can’t wait to exchange life stories and experiences 🤍

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Apart from travelling on a tight budget (student things rip), I've been working and studying so much that sometimes I feel like I've forgotten to live, so here I am :)

I have a few friends from all over the world and it's been very rewarding thus far, so I feel like it wouldn't hurt to expand that circle further. It feels exciting to be a part of something bigger than my own little world and for that I am thankful ❤️

In the future, I do hope to be able to host others as well and show others around the city of Kuala Lumpur or my hometown in Kota Kinabalu, depending on where I am at that point in time :) My mother would also be more than happy to prepare a meal with the organic fruits and veggies that she grows in the backyard 🤭

Interests

I love vlogging in my free time, but sometimes I just vlog my daily life too haha. My youtube channel is “dilly dally dot”, but I haven’t uploaded anything in a while because I got too busy 🤧 Hopefully my next trip will give me the motivation and inspiration to post another vlog! 🤭

Music, Movies, and Books

Top 3 all-time fav songs:

- Hymn for the Weekend by Coldplay
- Patience by Hollow Coves
- Saturn by Sleeping At Last

Give them a listen and perhaps you can gauge who I am deep down based on these songs 👀 Although tbh my music taste is a melting pot of everything. I listen to alternative rock, alternative pop, k-pop, j-pop, c-pop, rap, EDM, lo-fi, etc.

Fav book genre is sci-fi and fantasy. Same goes for movies with the addition of rom-com and thrillers. Interstellar is the movie I love the most, I think I've watched it 7 times already and I don't think I will ever get tired of it (;・・;) Oh I also LOVE watching k-drama as it makes me imagine my ideal life and romance 😭

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm not sure I've done anything worthy of being called amazing but I once won a national-level photography competition and got the chance to represent my country in Japan ヾ(・ω・。)シ I made so many friends from all over the world, some of which I still keep in touch with to this day(‐^▽^‐)

Teach, Learn, Share

I can tell you all about my culture ♥(ˆ⌣ˆԅ) and in the same way I'd love to learn about yours too. I belong to a native indigenous race in Sabah which is in East Malaysia, and I think my culture is quite unique but also quite rare in these modern times. I would love to share about it if you’re willing to listen ~

Also, if my host happens to like music or art I'll be more than happy to share my favourites ( ◞・౪・) I can teach you the Malay language if you'd like, and I can share my experiences and Malaysian snacks too!

What I Can Share with Hosts

What is valuable to you? Tell me. Let's be friends, and I'll lend an ear or a shoulder whenever you need. If you collect coins or currency from different countries, do tell me. I can give you some Malaysian ones ^_^ I can also be your lunch time companion or someone to share snacks or desserts with (*^▽^*)ゞ

I am an avid collector of stickers, washi tape, and other stationeries like sticky notes, pens, and postcards, so I am more than willing to share some if you’d like :)
