About Me

I might describe myself as hungry - hungry for travel, hungry for new experiences, of course hungry for interesting and exciting things to eat. I'm a very positive person, eager to share experiences with those around me. I read a lot, and have a fascination with culture, science, and food. I like to smile, and I like people who like to smile.

I currently live in Kyiv, Ukraine, having moved here in 2010 to help run a software company. I love being in this part of the world, and have been spending my time off trying to explore as much as possible.

PHILOSOPHY

Change is good. From each experience, good and bad, there is something worthwhile to be gained.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am a traveler, and I like other travelers. CouchSurfing has been great in helping me find other travelers, both when at home and abroad. It's great to have the chance to meet up and chat with people even when I'm stuck in Kyiv.

I'm ready to help out travelers passing through Kyiv! Even if I am unable to host you, I have many local contacts and may be able to connect you with somebody who can.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have met some of my closest friends throughout the world due to CS. I support and admire CS because it breaks through walls, allowing more authentic connections between strangers.

I have had almost entirely positive experiences, and attribute this to putting positive effort into the system and having simple expectations from the people I meet.

Interests

I love variety and can easily enjoy something new even if I wouldn't do it twice. I am curious about people and the world around me.

Music, Movies, and Books

I currently read about 50% non-fiction and 50% classic 20th century novels, though I enjoy older classics as well. I'll read some contemporary fiction from time to time, but it depends on what it is.

I also constantly consume podcasts when traveling. They're great for when on the road. Some of my favorite podcasts are Radio Lab, Hidden Brain, and This American Life.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I suppose it's not a "thing" exactly (though I've seen plenty of lovely things), but I was deeply affected by the half year I spent in rural Cambodia, as I allowed a decade of stress, tension and negativity seep out of me.

It's those sort of experiences through travel that I find amazing - to be thrust into an environment that requires me to change.
