About Me

I'm a graduate student who loves to meet people and to travel. I have lived in Brazil, Bolivia, and Guatemala and currently live in Utah (in the US) where I am studying (if you're wondering, yes - you should visit Utah. We have both Rocky Mountains and red rock arches and cliffs here!) I'm from Idaho originally, but no I didn't grow up on a farm. :) Probably my favorite thing is meeting new people and getting to know them, so I'm really excited to both host and to travel. I love conversation, especially if it's over Currently, I'm on a trip to understand the cultures of Northern Europe better because I think they're so cool.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've wanted to do it for years, but I finally got my own place and am able to host people! Yay! Also, as mentioned several times, I live to meet new people. Some of my lifelong friends are people I met for a few hours in a hostel. I think meeting people is always the best part of traveling, but when I'm not traveling, I miss it. So, here I am.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a big music and film person, but to be honest, I'm always trying to find more time to read. It's hard to say favorites, but this is what I am loving currently:

Music artists: Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, Angus and Julia Stone, Jonsi, and Sigur Ros. Oh, and Dylan, the Bratt
Movies: Most recently, I really liked Arrival and Lion. I'm really looking forward to Dunkirk because I'm a huge Christopher Nolan fan. I also love international cinema and would appreciate any recommendations.
Books: I'm a read-too-many-books-at-once person, but right now, I'm not reading anything. Next book I want to read is The Book of Joy by Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I learned Portuguese by backpacking through Brazil by myself when I graduated from college. That was pretty intense.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'll teach you how to make killer Mexican food (provided we can find the ingredients!). If traveling, I'd love to learn some local dialect and I want you to tell me the things about where your from that no one else will tell me. In terms of sharing, I love talking about ideas and culture. I feel like I have a lot to share, but I also love listening. One of my favorite quotes is "I listen therefore I am" so I sincerely try to do that, and I look for people who can do that for me.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share food, time, conversation, etc. I'd love to explore together if you have time.
