About Me

Hi, I'm Douglas - but call me Doug. I'm a wide-eyed scientist by nature; interested in things I can understand, fascinated by things I can't. My seemingly inexhaustible supply of curiosity keeps me wanting to travel and learn.

I've just graduated from 5 years of Chemistry and I'm excited for all that's to come.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love the philosophy of paying things forward helping people to travel. I think being able to travel shouldn't have to incur a huge financial penalty and that travellers hosting travellers makes a lot of sense. Taking money out of the equation makes the host-guest interaction a mutual exchange where one is not serving the other.

Interests

Geometry, chemistry, bio-fuels, dumpster-diving, off-grid, low-tech, open-source, Linux, LaTeX, preventative healthcare, fitness.... non-exhaustive.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spent a fortnight at the Open Source Ecology camp in Extremadura, 2012, where I was introduced to some incredible people who I keep in contact with to this day. There I was introduced to Permaculture, Arduino, DIY solar power, geodomes, compressed earth brick, super-adobe, 3-bowls washing up system and many other open-source and sustainable technologies. This event greatly shaped me and where I want to go with life.
