About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Get to know people from all over the world. Lose weight and bring more movement into my live (sports).

ABOUT ME

No matter how hard the landing, it's always a good landing, if you can walk away from it on your own two legs, haha.
I think of myself as an easy going person, live and let live. When I was 19 years old I moved to the US of A and lived there for 22 years. Then I decided to move back to Germany. Now I know, how hard the Germans make life for themselves. I got to know the "easy going, cool, no problem Americans", and I am trying to show the Germans once in a while, that life is so much nicer without yelling and pushing and shoving :-).
My girl friend (now again roomie) has travelled and lived all over the world, Monaco, GB, France, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates. She is the one who speaks French.

PHILOSOPHY

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.
Live and let live.
Ulli, female earthling, mostly harmless ;-) (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth: mostly harmless)
When people ask: where are you from? My answer is: I am from earth, where are you from?

Pink Floyd, The Temptations, ABBA, Concrete Blonde, Robbie Williams, Led Zeppelin, pretty much everything, except Hip Hop and Rap.
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, lots of others, I read all the time.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Parachuting. Flying an airplane all by myself a few times, a small, one-engine Cessna, no Jumbo jet, haha. Diving at the Dominican Republic, even though I am not really that comfortable in the deep ocean. Open water (ocean, rivers, lakes) scares me a little sometimes, but I have no probs with a pool, even though I almost drowned in one when I was a kid. Getting married and divorced three times (my mom started calling me Elizabeth Taylor, haha). Swimming naked in a lake at night with a few great friends and a full moon shining. There is a really great part of a river by Austin, Texas, where a girlfriend and I had such a great time, I'll never forget this. There were lots of little waterfalls and one bigger one, and white rocks washed out by the river, forming all kinds and all forms of "tubs", where you could just lie and rest and enjoy the water and the sun. I cannot remember the last time I had such a great, relaxing, "no worries" day. That spot is simply amazing, and not many people seemed to know about it, at least at that time. Floating around on a raft in a pool on a very hot Texas day, with an ice-cold drink in your hand or at the edge of the pool. Water skiing. Snow skiing.

Teach, Learn, Share

Only because I don't see the big picture right away doesn't mean, the other person is stupid. Maybe I am the ignorant one. Example: in America you can throw a tablet into the dishwasher with the plastic still on, because it dissolves. When I came to Germany, I did exactly that at my girlfriend's: the tablet went into the dishwasher still wrapped up in the plastic. Luckily she is one of those world travellers also and called me up and asked: do you have dishwasher tablets in the States, where the wrapping dissolves? I said yes, then I was quiet and said: they don't have it here yet, do they? She just laughed and said no :-). Any other German would have just bitched about me being soooo stupid and putting the tablet into the dishwasher without removing the wrapping.
The same thing with the famous German dishmaker company "Villeroy and Boch". The Americans pronounce Boch as Bosch, since most of them can't pronounce the "ch" sound. Since I don't really have any idea about designer brands, I kept saying Bosch instead of Boch for many years. I have no idea how many "designer freak Germans" thought me stupid, because I didn't pronounce it the GERMAN WAY.
If somebody is not very fluent in my own language, but makes him- or herself understood, I am not bitching about his/her lousy German, but I wish, I would be as fluent in his/her language, as he or she is in German or English.
