ABOUT ME

Phil and Gulmira are a couple, Phil from Kentucky, Gulmira from Kazakhstan. We got married in June 2011. Phil is a Spanish and English teacher. Gulmira is a specialist in Elementary and Special Education. They met when Phil was in the Peace Corps in KZ. They've lived in four different cities and seven different apartments since 2010. They love to travel, meet new people and cook Thai curry. They have a dog named Belka.

PHILOSOPHY

We live for new experiences and the creation of new memories. We cherish the friends we have and strive to find more. We are always on the lookout for those perfect moments when things are "just right".

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Phil met several travelers through CS, who encouraged him to join. During his time in KZ, he met more. He convinced Gulmira to share his account so that they both can travel and host together, for the rest of their lives.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Great experiences, all. We can't host as often as we'd like, but always enjoy the times we have. We try to repay some of the great hospitality we've received on the road.

Intereses

Phil loves to sing and play the guitar, as well as participate in team sports like soccer, basketball and ultimate frisbee. He likes reading and writing in his time alone, but also enjoys time traveling and meeting new people.

Gulmira loves hanging out at the pool and window shopping for jewelry. She reads both English and Russian novels and is secretly a fan of reality TV. She studies hard and loves to go out dancing with friends.

Belka loves eating, sleeping and playing. He's a dog.

We like most music, books and movies. Easy to please.

Phil saw Kazakhstani middle schoolers write a song in English and then teach it to their friends. They sang it every day for months.

Gulmira saw a pile of puppies sleeping one on top of the other.

Belka played in the snow for so long that his black fur turned white.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

Phil wants to learn how to cook something new, and to learn how to speak French and Kazakh. He speaks Russian, Spanish and English, and can play the guitar.

Gulmira wants to learn how to not overpack when she travels, and to see into the future. She speaks Russian, English, German and a bit of Kazakh. She can also drive a car.

Belka wants to learn how to hold a treat on his nose without letting it drop. He can teach you how to forget about your worries.
