Hello fellow wanderers!

My name is Mike. One day I unexpectedly arrived here on Earth. It was quite nice, so I decided to stay, and have been here ever since.

After 5 years on the go, 7 continents, and 60+ countries, I decided to go back to Canada. I never saw it coming, but it was here in my home nation where I really found myself. I'm from Toronto but went on a road trip a few years ago and discovered that British Columbia is among the greatest places in the world! Since then I've lived in Victoria, Vancouver, and Nelson.

My main goal in life is to 'Spread the FUNERGY!'

Funergy is my word. It came from Fun (obviously!) and Positive Energy. Funergy is enjoying life... it's releasing your inner child... it's wanting to smile and make others around you smile... it's putting on a costume and not caring if you look 'weird'. It's saying 'Why not, that sounds like fun, lets do it!'

I firmy blieve that...
- The world would be a happier place if everyone wore animal hats
- Life is too short to wear white, brown, or black socks
- Mother Nature was on drugs when inventing the octopus
- Everything is more fun in costume
- You should always do everything with an open heart and an open mind, and who knows what amazing things will come your way

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I like the groups and have attended meetups and get-togethers all over... Canada, Malaysia, Mexico, Hong Kong.... I've always had a great experience. I host people and surf with others, depending on if I'm at home or travelling.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have surfed a bunch of times, in Canada, US, Mexico, and Asia. I've hosted people in Toronto. I've attended lots of Toronto meetups, and gatherings in many other places as well.

CS was my saviour on my trip to Asia. I arrived in Jakarta, Indonesia in the middle of the night, and in my process of searching for a place to stay, I was drugged and robbed of everything. I stumbled my way to the Canadian embassy with no cash and nowhere to go, and an Indonesian who worked at the Canadian Embassy recognized me from my post on the CS Jakarta forum and invited me to stay at his place. He then introduced me to a whole network of people, and it was a blast! I don't know what I would have done otherwise.

Intereses

Travel, meeting new people, and now languages.

I love costumes, and playing, and my latest interest is clowning (I'm currently in clown school and love it!)

'The Alchemist'
I love it! It's such a great book for travelling. Makes me realize that I want to be the boy and not the crystal merchant. I don't want to just dream... I want to do.

Other favourites are Ishmael, Oh The Places You'll Go, A Short History of Nearly Everything, and Man's Search for Meaning.

Algo increíble que he hecho

With 5 years spent on the road plus various other trips, you would think this would be a hard question. But it's not. Without a doubt, Burning Man is the most amazing place I have ever been. No words I can put here can begin to describe the vibe, the energy, the creativity, the openness, the amazing world that exists for just 1 week every year in the middle of the desert. The only way to know what its like is to go there and experience it for yourself! I've been there 5 times in a row now.
