Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To see, experience and understand this world we live in.
ABOUT ME
My name is Dave, I graduated from the University of Ottawa with my degree in Economics, and worked the typical desk job for a year, but hated it and started traveling. I have been to many countries, some just visiting and others to live, and each one has something very special and different about it. I love meeting other people who have a passion for traveling
and exploring all that there is to be offered in this world. I am a laid-back individual who takes things day by day, and can be very independant. I also consider myself to be an open-minded individual. Right now I am traveling and teaching english, as I have discovered that is something I love doing.
PHILOSOPHY
Live life to the fullest and without regret.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Right now I am traveling and have been for a long time, but when I eventually settle, would be more than happy to host people.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have had a couple Couchsurfing related experiences, but not actually from this site. I have hosted two people I met along my travels while living in Damascus, Syria for both 4 and 7 days.
The most enjoyable experience I have had was when I was traveling in Tasmania, Australia. I was taking a ferry from the Southeast Coast to a small island and had no idea of where I was going or where I would sleep. I met a local on the ferry who offered his couch in a makeshift shack in the middle of a forest, which had many white wallabies running around it (similar to small kangaroos). We cooked dinner on a bonfire and watched old tv shows on a 5-inch television powered by a car battery. It was an amazing experience, and have learned how fun and helpful it is to be able to couchsurf.
Interests
Obviously traveling is a passion of mine, but I also love all sports, both watching and playing. I enjoy playing board games, cards, etc. and am always up for watching some movies. Hiking, camping, and climbing mountains is something that I love doing, and have been fortunate enough to do that in many countries around the world.

Music, Movies, and Books
Some of my favourite movies are Zoolander, Starsky & Hutch, 300, Gladiator, and Underworld. I am not fussed about types of music, but if I had to say, my favourite bands are Death Cab for Cutie, Dashboard Confessional, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Our Lady Peace. I don't really have a "favourite" book as reading is not something I love doing, but one I have enjoyed is 'History of the Arab People' by Albert Hourani.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Climbing Mount Snowdon (1085m high) in Wales, UK. As we climbed, we lost the path and before we knew it, were straddling the ridge (which was approximately 1 meter wide) with a 500m drop to the next level on either side of us. Was amazing to finally reach the summit hidden in the clouds.
Teach, Learn, Share
I don't know what I really have to teach to others....maybe some card games?? I seem to have learned a few along the way. I love learning about language and culture, and would love to learn some martial arts. Also, I still don't understand Rugby,
so if anyone can explain that to me I would be grateful.
There are so many things to share, from cultures and traditions to places and experiences. The world is a place with so many experiences just waiting to happen and so many stories just waiting to be told, and the best way to discover it is to go and travel it. Something you will never regret.
