About Me

CURRENT MISSION
curiosity over fear
沒有英文也沒有問題,我喜歡講中文!
ABOUT ME
It's always interesting to reflect on the changes in what I've written here over the years. Currently I find myself becoming a person who enjoys quality baked goods, and standing very still outside (barefoot on some moss, or possibly in the mud) and listening to the wind in the trees. Listening to people can be nice too (depends on what they say of course). I like making art (but also just saying I ought to make more art). I can stare at maps for a really long time if given the chance. I get a thrill out of picking the right adjectives while editing essays/complaints.

My beverage of choice is hot chocolate. Bicycling by the river, driving out into the desert, climbing things that probably (or definitely) shouldn't be climbed on, all delightful activities. I tend to be quiet in groups, but with the potential for relentless conversation with one person. I don't mind crowds if the situation involves following someone around their local market and there's food involved at the end.

People make some wild assumptions about my gender sometimes. My references mostly refer to me as "she" but that's not really accurate anymore.

PHILOSOPHY
“When nature calls, you can't hang up the phone"
"You can't bake a cake with the oven door open"
“Always bring your own toilet paper”

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've surfed a lot and would like to start hosting.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Sometimes it's fantastic, sometimes it's mediocre, but it's always interesting.

Interests

Cemeteries. Street art. Doorways + staircases, rooftops, mountains. Chickens. Shorelines. Putting my hands in the dirt. Poking at things on the beach. Taking photos of banana box logos. Waffles. Listening to the radio. Naps. Carrying around little notebooks. That canned coconut milk from 海南. Button down shirts. Pacific-centered world maps. Speaking foreign languages. Making art. eating 蔥抓餅.

Music, Movies, and Books

music: International hip hop. 90s Chinese pop songs, but only if there's electric guitar at some point. Jazz manouche. Rock'n'roll. Certain kinds of country/bluegrass/americana. Russian bards (well, mainly Веня Д'ркин). The Udta Punjab soundtrack. People singing in the metro.

Movies: Bollywood crime thrillers with wild twist endings, Hong Kong gangster movies, wuxia, documentaries, Wang Kar-Wai. Konstantin Khabensky. 胡歌. 琅琊榜 . 河神 . Anime (Paprika, Tekkonkinkreet, Your Name)

Books: Discworld will always have a place in my heart. I find myself becoming fond of 1950s travelogues. Always appreciate some good fantasy and sci-fi (or some bad fantasy, if it's easy reading and occasionally makes me laugh). I really like graphic novels (The Sandman, Saga...anything that looks interesting at the library) and webcomics (Stand Still Stay Silent, Ava's Demon, The Less Than Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal, 19天, KSBD, Spacetrawler etc).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm constantly amazed by the generosity of people I've stayed with and met while traveling.
I've survived the snorffling noises of what may have been the world's ugliest pug dog.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can knead dough and put your bread in the oven (I mention this because it has happened more than once while couchsurfing), wash dishes, walk your dog(s).

I'm pretty open to learning anything useful, bizarre, or entertaining. Rituals of secret societies, that kind of thing.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Can give you a punk haircut or make you banana bread.

Don't believe me if I say I'll be back in a year and fluent in your language so I can talk to your grandma. Maybe I'll be able to talk to her but I probably won't understand what she says to me.

Countries I’ve Visited
