About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Spent the last 4 years traveling, living in the Bavarian Alps and the Caribbean Islands, learning to sail, and generally having incredibly formative experiences. About to head back to Oregon to finish my undergraduate degree in International Relations.

ABOUT ME

Well, I'm not very good at talking about myself but here goes...

Fun-loving while often quiet and pensive, I am an animal-lover, avid reader, traveler and dancer. At the risk of sounding trite, I love good wine, good food and good conversation to no end! I am a pescetarian (although mostly vegetarian), and a lot of people would call me a hippie. I probably would too. :)

PHILOSOPHY

Flow.

Music, Movies, and Books

Dune, Neuromancer, pretty much anything by Dennis Lehane or David Benioff. Tom Holland writes some pretty spell-binding histories of the Middle East. Gotta admit, I have read the Harry Potter series twice and was recently obsessively addicted to A Song of Ice and Fire.

Some of my favorite movies are Amelie, The Brothers Bloom, The Fountain, City of God, Almost Famous, and Inglourious Basterds.

Music...I probably don't have enough space here. My favorite band of all time is Led Zeppelin. I have been listening to a lot of underground electronic music (west coast-centric), but I also love trip-hop and indie rock, 90's grunge, and I played trumpet for 13 years so I have a healthy love and appreciation for all types of jazz and "classical" music. What intrigues me most is music that successfully fuses together a few genres in a way that is intelligent, and it helps if it is also groovy. ;)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I had given up on going to Europe for the time-being, then randomly found an opportunity to get flown to Germany and work there for a year, and I made it happen, despite being terribly frightened of such a huge change!

At the beginning of the year I sailed a 38 ft. ketch (monohull sailboat) from Florida to the Dominican Republic via The Bahamas and Haiti.

Teach, Learn, Share

See above.

I do have to remind myself sometimes that there is something to learn from everyone (especially when the lesson is born from a negative experience with a person), but it is always at least in the back of my mind.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I wish I could say that I'm an amazing cook or massage therapist, but I'm not. I believe I'm a pretty considerate guest and I'll definitely clean your kitchen for you. :)
