About Me

I am an artist and graphic designer who is recently divorced (divorcing? it's in progress) and starting a new chapter in my life. Part of that is migrating north. I am outgoing and super easy to get along with, an extrovert who enjoys making new friends and existing just outside my comfort zone.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm naturally pretty extroverted, so this seems like a great was to grow and learn by meeting different people. Being exposed to a variety of different people can't be a bad thing.

Interests

I'm interested in creativity, and most the ways that can manifest, visually, musically, etc. everyone approaches creative works differently, and everyone is a bit mad.

I'm interested in reasonable discourse (that sounds weird, I know) but I enjoy having talks that are not emotionally driven conflicts, but just straight forward, non judgemental exchanging of views.

I'm big on letting people live how they want to live as long as it doesn't hurt others. Not into the shaming culture I see so much of these days.

Music, Movies, and Books

So broad! Okay I'll try.

Movies:
Shawshank Redemption, Finding Nemo, Goonies, Her. This is silly, there are so many good movies

Music:
Lately folksy bluegrass stuff, I've always loved Weezer, G. Love & Special Sauce, Tribe Called Quest, Tenacious D, Bjork

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've got two:

I went around the entire country of India by train, reaching the furthest points west, north, east and south. You can read about it on drewgilbert.com (my site)

And I did the Toughguy Race in the UK. The original mid run that started decades before Spartan runs or Toigh Mudders. That is also chronicled on my site.

Teach, Learn, Share

It would be a blast to go on a sketchcrawl with someone, drawing various locations in town. Maybe we can swap pieces afterwards.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm happy to show off the documentary I am touring to anyone who takes me in. It's about people who take their careers on the road with them all over the globe.

Countries I’ve Visited

Cambodia, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Italy, Laos, Lebanon, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Morocco, Nicaragua, Romania, Rwanda, Réunion, Scotland, Serbia, Spain, Thailand

Countries I’ve Lived In
