À propos de moi
Who am i?
I don't like this question, maby because i don't know the answer (yet)? Maby thats "the reason i'm travelling?" but let's not get side tracked here. If u are visiting this page you are most likely a host who is trying to figure out wether i'm a narcistic zombie vampire from outer space on a mission to invade your home in the glory of Lord Coco puff. So i owe u an explanation... here it goes:
have u ever ate those popping candies? Yes, the ones that explode in your mouth. Now can u remember the first time u had them? U were probably like:
"Wow, what is this? It's full of energy and sparkels! I think i like it, but then again i'm not sure." and then the popping dies down and eventually stops.
This might be the impression i make at first. But most of the time i'm just a really relaxing and calm guy that enjoys laying down after a long day of exploring the world. I love sharing experiences as long as u do to. If not, wel u wont be bothered by me. I'll just go straigth to sleep.
What did u say? You like one of the following things?
Boardgames, drinking, exploring, adventure, hiking, nature walks, sleeping late.
I do too!
Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing
As a student i have a limited budget to travel with. Couchsurfing is a great tool to help me explore the world as mucht as possible. Because less money spend on a sleeping acomodation means more money to keep on traveling.
Mostly i'll try camping but after a while u get dirty and u'd like to freshen up. Couchsurfing can provide these opportunities without costing me an arm and a leg.
I also love connecting with a place, and meeting locals is a great opportunity to do just that!

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue
The one thing that pops into my mind is my latest vacation in Iceland. I was there with my girlfriend for 20 days. When we were planning our trip we really wanted to go "ice rafting", we didn't have a lot of cash to spare and the adventure was pretty expensive but we promised ourselves that if we were able to save up enough money during our travels we would do it.
We started out great! after a couple of days we already saved up well over €150 euro's! But then came the rain. We weren't prepared for very heavy rain for multiple days. At this point we had 2 options, 'drive back 150km's and waste the money we saved up for rafting to buy 2 pair's of rain protective pants' or 'stay indoors for the remaining time'. Since i hate wasting time while traveling we hopped into our car and started driving. By the time we got back we spended €300 euro's :ccc €135 each for the pants and €30 in gas for the car. But at least we could go hiking again.
We had to start saving even harder. When we got to day 15 we realised we were going to make it! So i called to make a rafting reservation. On day 16 we arrived late at night at the camping spot. We prepared ourselves for our rafting experience the next day. It was a class 3 river with some class 4 rapids. We had very little experience, but our guides (3 guides just for the 2 of us) told us everything was safe. We hade 2 guides with us in the raft and 1 was on a small paddleboat and functioned as the rescue guide.
First we received our wetsuites and then there was a 35 min busride. After that we got our safety instructions and then we vould finaly get into the cold water. We started out on a sidebranch of the main river. The rapids here were small but a lot of fun. The instructors tested our skill, wich was mostly the ability to follow their instructions, and then we hitted the main river. The rapids here were a lot heavyer. We got to our first big rapid and had a great time.
The second rapid was called "The Endurance" it was called that because you had to peddle with all the strenght u have in order to make te drop. And we did! We paddled, and paddled, our instructor was yelling: "Go harder, harder, push forward." The last thing i heard was one of the safety instructions yelled out by our main guide, "Get Down, get down!". I dropped into the boat and everything became a blur. The boat went over the waterfall, turned around and got sucked under the waterfall. I was in the front together with my girlfriend. Both of us were stuck underneath the waterfall. It felt like eternity, i lost my breath instantly and fear got the best of me. the pressure of the waterfall made sure i wasn't able to move my head. All i could think in my confusion was, "i can't keep my girlfriend safe", "please get me out of here!". the boat started turning, at that moment my girlfriend got free but i was still stuck. I tried counting in order to keep consience. 5 seconds,.... 10 seconds,....... 15 seconds,... the boat surfaced from underneath the waterfall. I took a deep breath and coughed up some water. When i turned around i saw something i would never forget!
I saw my girlfriend, the expression on here face was 100% fear. She was in shock, instructors were yelling but she couldn't hear a thing. I jumped over to here side and pushed her down to the side of the boat, my body surrounding her in the hopes that it would provide a sense of safety. While this was happening the boat was still "surfing" wich means we were being pulled into the waterfall over and over again. It might have been only 1 min of being stuck there but it felt like eternity for the both of us. And one moment later:
"get ready! let's go forward!", "push hard!" i got ready and started paddling, paddling for my life. My girlfriend did the same thing, i saw a strenght in here i had never seen before. The strenght of someone who is truly terrified. And so we paddled, away from the waterfall. And then the instructor told us the following:
"ay, we are having fun right?!", "You are doing great!", He had the biggest smile on he's face. "we are going to take a break now." we were happy to take a short brake and reflect on life for a moment.
Then he said:
"we have 3 rapids left to go."
There are things u think u'll never forget but a year later those memories start to fade. And 3 years later those memories will be totally gone. I can honestly say that i will never forget this for the rest of my life. Till this day it gives me a feeling of heroism that we avercame this challange together. And till this day it is still something that had a positive impact on my relationship.
Ye, almost dieing together will do that!
I'd like to finish by thanking our instructors for keeping us safe during this experience, and of course for keeping a smile on our faces in a time we really needed it!
