Hey there! My name is Omar Torres. I was born in the Mexican state of Veracruz, but have lived in Mexico City since I was very young. I love to travel and to meet new people around the world. I'm both a Medical Doctor and a Historian, having graduated from Mexico's top universities ITESM and UNAM. I’m also finishing my last year of the BSc in International Relations at the University of London. I speak English, Portuguese and French, besides Spanish, and my German is good enough to maintain a fluent conversation. I have begun learning Mandarin Chinese. I love art, science, and culture. I’m a foodie; therefore, I know some of the best culinary secrets in my country. I like amateur photography, and I love to tell stories and tour foreigners in my city so they can learn about the amazing culture of Mexico.

I am on Couchsurfing because I strongly believe humans are the same all over the world. We may speak different languages, and have different cultures, but essentially we are all the same. For that reason, I am very interested in getting to know different cultures and ways of thinking. I am also eager to show the world that Mexico, and Mexico City is an amazing place, and that Mexicans; in spite of all the difficulties we have had to live with, are some of the most friendly, and hospitable people around the globe.

I love Latin American and Spanish music. I am also a huge fan of old music, but I do like pop hits and contemporary music. I like European films, and enjoy the new hits of Mexican cinema too. I like also Hollywood blockbusters.

I am an avid reader. Magical realism (which originated in Latin American) is one of my favourite genres. I love Gabriel García Márquez. I read different things in different languages all the time.

I wrote my first scientific abstract at Yale University in 2014. I was an intern at the NDM Department of Medicine at the University of Oxford in 2015 where I researched new vaccine technologies. I got accepted to study the MSc in Global Health and Social Justice at King’s College London, and I will be starting my course this September 2021.

I would love to teach people about Mexico's History, but since I’m a Historian I do know a lot of things of World History, and History by regions. I love Art History and know many things about it. I am passionate about science too. I would love to learn about new cultures and the history of the countries I visit. I would also love to practise the languages I have learnt so far, and learn new ones.
