Über mich

CURRENT MISSION

figure out my current mission

ABOUT ME

I am starting my first 'big girl job' in a completely new country which is something I have never expected...and I love it. I love being able to wander through cities and discover new things and I'm hoping to meet people that will enjoy this with me. I also enjoy reading, watching sports (soccer, volleyball), and golf.If you want to get to know me a little better you can read my ranting on my blog http://daniellerschmidt.blogspot.com/

PHILOSOPHY

This may sound completely cliche, but for me it's all about love. It's about showing respect and giving all people dignity. It's ok that you may not agree, but it isn't your job to hate someone else. (I'm pretty sure there are 800 songs written on this very topic, so I'll stop because everything else I say are sure to be song lyrics)

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

If you are in town for a few days it would be lovely to have a chance to meet for a coffee (or beer). I'm a yes person, if I'm free which most of the time I am, I will say yes!!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Darmstadt was a very difficult place for me to find a place to live so I ended up couch surfing for the first two weeks with a very lovely person who I still consider a good friend. It was my birthday the third day I was there and I didn't want to put any pressure on her, but I told her anyways and we had a lovely little party with some of her friends. Including a buttercream cake!

Interessen

golf, reading, travelling, movies, culture, soccer, volleyball. I'm interested in people. I love to just sit outside and watch people live their lives. Some people watch documentaries about animals, I think humans are much more fascinating.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

These are always the worst questions, I can't just name a book, I love most books, and movies - I watch wayyy to many. I also have an unfounded addiction to reality shows, but not the ones where there is a lot of time clapping and cheering. As far as music I love folk, singer/songwriter, a little bit of rap mixed in there and in general I just love to hear people that are passionate about their craft.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

Silvester in Berlin - not realizing fireworks were legal here (poor little canadian girl) and walking back thinking that there were bombs going off. Then watching a dad throw his firework at his son was utterly terrifying and exciting at the same time.

Deciding one tuesday night in May that I wanted to go to BC for the weekend. Calling up my friend, and packing up the car that tuesday and leaving the next day. Stayed with a friend for some 'unofficial couch surfing' and then drove back a few days later after watching my cousin in a volleyball tournament. On the way back driving 24 hours until we were some, through the dark prairie night.

Oktoberfest in Munich. I know it's a kitchy touristy thing to do. But man was it fun. Going with my best friends from Canada who I was on exchange with in Germany at the time and then meeting up with another friend who was living in Italy at the time. The greatest experience I'll never remember - thank goodness for pictures.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

I think that you can learn from all people, naturally some more than others. You may even learn things you never knew you cared about. From each relationship a little part of you is affected. I talked with a lady once for an our without knowing her name in a cafe and I learned wonderful things from her about growing old. I love those small interactions.

I also like spontaneity. Isn't that really what this whole couch surfing experience is really about. Being a little bit out there, really learning the culture from the insiders that know it best.
