About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To save the world, one debate at a time.

ABOUT ME

I'm not a shy person, though I can seem like it. If I feel comfortable and at home, I'm witty and sarcastic (I have to work on the sarcasm thing sometimes). Although in larger groups, I tend to quiet down more and not be the center of attention. In large groups of new people, I'm a dormouse, but it isn't shyness or rudeness, I love to listen to conversation.

One thing that gets me started is philosophical or political debate. I'm personally apathetic with Canadian politics, but will debate them anyway. Devil's Advocate is almost a sport for me.

I love talking about things I'm interested in. This seems weird and almost obvious for most people, but I really get focused when talking about my likes: History, Philosophy, Food, Travel, Movies, etc.

I'll try any type of food once. I don't like cooked mushrooms or cooked eggplant. Everything else is fair game.

I'm content with a quiet cup of coffee, or a loud bar with noisy people. My environment matters less to me than my companions. As long as my fellow conversationer is engaging and intelligent (to a degree, I'm not asking for Hawking), I'm happy!

PHILOSOPHY

I'm a philosophy major in university, so I could probably go on one of those pretentious rants about which -ism or which man best represents my view. In reality, I like to be kind, and take a secular "do unto others" approach to life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'll try and get myself validated soon. And definitely donate, because it would be a shame for this operation to fold into non-existence.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I haven't had any CS experiences as of yet, but that will hopefully change sooner or later. If anyone is in the Ottawa area, traveling, feel free to message me to meet up for a drink or coffee. I know this city very well, and would love to show outsiders around.

Interests

Probably anything except camping. I hate camping.
I'd much rather 'do as the locals do' then get caught in a tourist trap, when I travel in the near future.
I'm very interested in cooking, and eating my cooking. And cooking with others. Baking! I absolutely adore baking. Can you tell I like food?

So, here's a small list:

Travel (duh?)

Cooking/Baking

I usually let others make the suggestions.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: If it's not Country (think Garth Brooks, for example, if you aren't from North America), I like it. I'm currently hooked on Benny Bennassi and Lady GaGa, but The Beatles are an all-time favorite. And especially David Guetta. I love house beats.

Movies: I enjoy a lot of movies. I'm a movie snob in the sense that I criticize everything, but I'll enjoy a silly summer blockbuster as much as the next person. I truly enjoy international cinema (here's lookin' at you, Germany). Movies I generally watch a few times a year: Titanic, Harry Potter, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Spirited Away, Kill Bill, anything else by Tarantino.

Books: Reading two Charles Dickens books at the moment (Great Expectations and Bleak House). I also like Evelyn Waugh, Virginia Woolf, and Kurt Vonnegut. Before you start thinking I'm a book snob too, I've read Twilight and not hated it, and I am the biggest Harry Potter fan in the word.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I saw Halley's Comet. It was cool at the time, but far cooler when you realize how many people don't get to see a comet in their lifetime.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have lots of knowledge to share. Knowledge is a good thing.
