About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To hitchhike to Senegal!

ABOUT ME

The name is Duane! I am a vagabond from the mountains in western Canada, but I wasn't homeless there. For nearly 18 years I lived in a hamlet called Bella Coola and now that I've graduated high school I can explore and experience some of the world which I've wanted to for so long.
I managed to convince the UK government to give me a working visa so now my life is:
Travel- Run out of money (buying CSers beers ;))- Go back to Scotland to make money-
In that order!

And stuff about my past...
Growing up in Bella Coola was much different from most places for reasons like:
-Being born, raised, and going to school all on the same street
-Having grizzly bears in your backyard
and
-Being 6 and a half hours away from the nearest anything.

I am the youngest of 5 children and broke tradition by not going to university right away! While in highschool most of my time was spent writing music and playing with my rock band. Hopefully with all this traveling I'll find some really good song writing material. And if you've got a guitar, I'd love to write a song for you!

PHILOSOPHY

Deep subject.

"Smile, breath and go slowly"

I like leo.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I want to meet as many CSers as possible and put in a good word for couch surfing any time that I can.
I go to a few meet-ups, I sometimes surf and I sometimes host.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had many good ones, but picking one from the top of the pile?
I would say becoming flatmates with one of my hosts two months later.

Interests

Making music- I think I said this before, but it really is a big interest of mine so here it is again. Being in a tight knit band is really cool. We even got to record some of our music, check it out here if you want: http://www.youtube.com/user/TobiasOfficialBand
Good times in highschool.

Recording music- It's interesting, and fun!

Playing music live- Now that's fun!

Hiking/Camping- I lived in the mountains for almost 18 years! I gotta love the outdoors.

Cooking- Don't get to excited, I have a tendancy to mess alot of my meals up by "eye-balling measurements" or throwing in something I like the taste of regardless if it goes well with the rest. Having said that though I do make a mean lentil soup!

Soccer/Football- Not great but I have scored goals by pelvic thrusting the ball.

Traveling- Of course!

Frisbee- Yes frisbee. I've just discovered how much fun throwing the ol' pluto platter around is. GOd I love frisbee.

Zen meditation- Staring at a wall can be very relaxing.

Judo- If staring at a wall doesn't relax you, getting beat up by a bunch of sweaty guys will.

Brewing- Ok I haven't been able to try this one yet but the idea of making my own beer with it's own distinct taste and look that I could drink and give to friends has been buzzing around in my head alot lately.

Practicing french. Because it's.. um.. interesting?

Drinking beer because I'm normal.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books? I think I should always read more but:
Slaughter House 5- Kurt Vonnegut
The Time Machine- H.G. Wells
Trainspotting- Irvine Welsh
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy- Douglas Adams
127 Hours- Aron Ralston- FYI it's amazing

Music
Artic Monkeys to The Beatles to Queens of the Stone Age to Radiohead to LCD Soundsystem. Those are a few bands I like anyway. I've been really digging the sounds of old jazz lately like "Take the A-train" and "Take Five". But let it be known I love ALL live music!
Aaand Eddie Vedder, CCR, Arcade Fire, and even Beethoven. Anything with a beat as well.
