About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Working, getting ready to move...dreaming of a vacation.

ABOUT ME

I am fluent in German, so feel free to write me in English or German. (Ich spreche fließend Deutsch, man kann mir auf Englisch oder auf Deutsch schreiben.)

I'm from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. I grew up on a grain farm 400 km east of Saskatoon but moved here for university in 2004. I finished a degree in Chemical Engineering in May 2009 and traveled to Germany/Austria/Switzerland/France with my partner Rhonda in May and June 2009. We had a great time visiting our friends from Germany/Austria (mainly exchange students who have studied here in Saskatoon) and it was awesome to experience the culture there firsthand. I'm now working as a Chemical Engineer in Saskatoon.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm agnostic and pretty open to new ideas. I think it's important for people to respect each other and other cultures and I'm always open to learn new things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I had a great time with people in Germany who showed us around and hosted us. I'm now trying to return the favour in terms of showing visitors around Saskatoon or possibly hosting as well.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Hosting and being hosted can be an amazing cultural exchange - it's awesome to talk to well travelled, interesting people and either experience their city first hand or show them yours.

Interests

I have a lot of interests...I have been learning German since September 2007 and I'm now fluent, although I'm constantly perfecting my knowledge and expanding my vocabulary. I'm interested in French and Russian, although I can only speak at a very basic level in both. I've been making chainmail armour/jewellery for about 8 years, and I make my own wine and beer. I enjoy playing video games, mainly old RPGs from the Super NES era, although I also enjoy Rock Band and Guitar Hero. I also play a text-based online game called the Discworld MUD, been playing it off-and-on for about 10 years.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a huge fan of fantasy novels, especially those by Terry Pratchett (Discworld series), David Eddings, Jack Whyte, and Raymond E. Feist to name a few. My musical taste is very eclectic, and I enjoy everything from Johnny Cash to AC/DC to Disturbed to die Ärzte to Juliane Werding, and nearly everything in between. I don't watch too many movies, but recently I've enjoyed German films like Das Weiße Band or Keinohrhasen.
