About Me
ABOUT ME
I'm only just getting into travel and I can't get enough of it. I grew up (and have spent the majority of my life) in a small town in western New York state. I'm presently a student and I love learning. I'm studying English, as I have always had a huge love of books and reading. Now though I'm getting into linguistics and sub fields therein. I love language and accents. I like to think I'm fairly outgoing, but I've come to learn that watching people is just as enriching and enjoyable as is interacting with them. I do love people, but I also find a certain pleasure in solitude, whether it be alone with myself, nature, or whatever else. I enjoy the outdoors. Hiking, camping, biking, and the like. I'm into sports too, I played soccer and tennis throughout high school and have recently begun dabbling in rugby and cycling.
PHILOSOPHY
I really don't have any single code I adhere to. I figure that for better or worse, I am here, on this good Earth. I am young, and I'm thrilled to be able to steer my life in whatever direction I choose. I could go out and get a tattoo, or get in an accident, or anything else. I like to think of Invictus, "I am the master of my fate: / I am the captain of my soul." I take pride in my moral code and behavior.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
If you're not at least slightly out of your element, you're not fully living. I want to meet as many interesting and foreign people as I can. My living conditions at present do not allow for me to host anyone, though that will change in the summer months. Still though, as a guest I eagerly look forward to most every form of interaction. A conversation over a cup of tea, go through a photo album or two, go out for a hike or walk, play some tennis, anything really.

Music, Movies, and Books
Books: I like to think I'm fairly well read. When I was in kindergarten my mother would read me a bit from C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia each night before I went to bed. I genuinely feel that I am the way I am today partly because of that book. I consider T.S. Eliot's Four Quartets to be the greatest thing I've ever read. The reason I chose to study English literature. I also am partial to Jules Verne, H.P. Lovecraft, G.K. Chesterton, C.S. Lewis, Dostoyevsky, etc.
Music: However cliché it may be, I listen to everything. My music library hosts a spectrum of genres ranging from folk-metal to Lady Gaga. Right now, my favorite band is Porcupine Tree. Yann Tiersen, Muse, Radiohead are up there as well. I'm a musician myself, I've played Trombone since I was 10. I LOVE jazz and classical music, and I have over 200 vinyl records (most of which are jazz and older stuff.) I play 1st trombone in the UNH Concert Band, and in my high school years I auditioned for and won a spot in the All New York State Jazz Ensemble every year I was eligible, grades 7-12. (Sadly I didn't actually play my senior year, because my soccer team made it to the New York state tournament and it was the same day.)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
My Alaska trip. Specifically, a Thanksgiving weekend spent in a cabin in Eklutna with good friends and sublime natural beauty. Seriously, I can never hope to do justice to my time in Alaska through words.
Teach, Learn, Share
I have a supreme passion for learning and knowledge. Conversation is probably my biggest and most readily available resource. I have a lot of trivial knowledge, and I love to pick up odd facts and little tid bits from others. Also I love accents and languages, so just hearing you speak will be a gift to me. I'm active and outdoorsey, and I'm more than willing to go out walking around outside or going to a field and throwing a ball around. If you're a musician or otherwise musically inclined, I have a ton of music that we could listen to, or we could even play together.
