About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I'm far too disorganized to have a mission beyond enjoying life.
ABOUT ME
We live in a small cottage on a dead-end dirt road across the road from a 38-acre pond. We're surrounded by tall pine trees, with 400 acres of them behind our home. We're three miles from the nearest village and 15-20 miles from Concord, NH. We live about an hour's drive from the NH seacoast, 90 minutes north of Boston, an hour from Vermont's rolling green hills, two hours from the Maine seacoast, two hours from NH's White Mountains and about three hours south of the Canadian border. I'm not sure if we're centrally located or near nothing at all.
We have snow shoes in winter, bring your bathing suit in summer.
PHILOSOPHY
The older I've get the more I see we only go around once so you may as well enjoy it. Most of the things we fret about fade into insignificance over time. Humour and a good cup of tea are essential to life.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We love meeting people so we go out of our way to make them feel welcome. We're often able to pick people up from Manchester or Concord, NH and can provide rides into Concord on weekdays or negotiate special trips as you need it and we are able. We do this to make up for the fact we live pretty far from anything that's not a tree.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We've mostly hosted, for another organization, just found Couch Surfing. We once hosted nine young people from all over the globe for a week in our tiny, four roomed house. It was like running a hostel, lots of work and lots of fun. You'd have to suck up a way lot to get us to do it again, though.
Interests
Swimming, walking in the woods, bicycling, music, reading, movies, soap making, organic gardening, agriculture of all sorts, cooking, eating, traveling and meeting people. Anything Irish--I have Irish citizenship, go back often to visit family and friends.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: The only movie I own on DVD is "Harold and Maude." We adore the drive in and make a point to go at least once per summer.
Music: I like what's well done rather than any particular genre. A nicely crafted song, classical music (including opera), well done folk, the straight-ahead rock and roll of my youth and later (Beatles, Donovan, Velvet Underground, Warren Zevon, Laura Nyro, Death Cab for Cutie), blues (Siegel-Schwall Band), some jazz (Dave Brubeck). We're rabid fans of an Irish rock group called The Saw Doctors. I can't say I like rap, you'd have to convince me on that. A steady diet of country wouldn't work for me but some of it's good.
Books: I read a wide variety of books from non-fiction "how to" to trashy murder mysteries to philosophy and history. I notice the quality of the writing.
