About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To meet as many vibrant people as I can and try new things. It's been my goal for most of my life, and I doubt that will ever change.
ABOUT ME
I am an adventurous, gregarious, and open-minded person. I love the outdoors, but at the same time I enjoy the more urban activities as well. I feel music deep within my soul and enjoy most styles (though I mainly listen to 60s-90s rock). I love to dance as well and have experimented with many types of social, folk, and classical dance styles. I feel I am an intelligent and deep person with much to offer as far as stimulating conversation goes. Yet, at the same time, I love to occasionally toss aside inhibition and just be unabashedly childish and impulsive. I am very candid about myself, but I am the most trustworthy person to tell your deepest secrets to (I carry all secrets to the grave except my own). I love to try new things, and will scarcely ever say 'no' to a novel experience. I love people, animals, and life in general.
A quick side-note: I might as well add that I don't eat meat (fish is fine) or smoke. However, I'm a big advocate for personal choice, so if you eat meat or do drugs, I'm not going to stop you unless it endangers my own personal safety.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Currently I am more interesting in surfing, since I do not have the space to host. I want to meet lots of new people and see new places. I especially enjoy seeing what makes the people I am with enjoy the place where they live, so even the "small" things in life (grocery stores, local hang out spots, etc) are an interesting stop for me.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I started couchsurfing locally, just to see what local towns were like. I later branched out to couchsurfing in different states, such as while visiting Alaska with my partner. But the best couchsurfing experience I had was while I was in Israel. I went to meet-ups with locals and international travellers, spend New Years Eve clubbing in Jerusalem with a traveller from the Phillipines, and then stayed with a few different hosts in Tel Aviv, hanging out with even more locals through the couchsurfing site. I can't wait to give back and host cool people from all around the world.
I used to host people all the time when I worked in Yosemite National Park. I loved to pick up "climbing bums" (an affectionate term for the rock climbing people who came without a place to sleep). I met lots of incredible people from various states and countries. I will hopefully be able to host people once I have a bigger place. When I do get to open my home to couchsurfers, the hosts I have stayed with will most certainly have an open invitation to visit Los Angeles.
Interests
I love to experience just about anything. The things that tend to draw me in the most are the arts, nature, foreign cultures, and history. I also love a good music scene.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: I am and will always be a Nine Inch Nails fan. I'm not too crazy about most contemporary music. I love classic rock such as The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, and The Beatles. I greatly enjoy 80's "batcave" goth (specifically darkwave), early punk, and pre-punk. I love Joy Division, The Smiths, The Stooges/Iggy Pop, X (as in Los Angeles X), The Velvet Underground/Lou Reed, Siouxsie and the Banshees, David Bowie, early Depeche Mode, and Bauhaus. I do also enjoy a little metal, such as Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, and Judas Priest. I enjoy any music that strikes me as unique and different from the usual fare (Gogol Bordello or Die Antwoord for instance). I do also enjoy jazz, blues, opera, showtunes, and classical music. I am a big dancer, so I enjoy latin music, flamenco music, and other accompaniments for the various styles of dance I enjoy.
Movies: I love cult classics and foreign films (especially chinese) the most. I also love film noir and abstract films. I enjoy films that depict future dystopias as well.
Books: I tend to enjoy philosophical books ("The Stranger", "Life of Pi", "Crime and Punishment"), feminist literature ("The Awakening"), and GLBTQI literature ("Middlesex"). I'm also getting into science fiction. I'm currently working my way through the Sandman graphic novels.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In summer of 2016, I spent a week at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab learning from their engineers how to get children excited about science and innovation.
In summer of 2017, I stayed on a fishing boat in Ketchikan, Alaska for several days. I assisted with catching shrimp and dungeness crabs and hiked on some pristine little islands.
(Okay, I know that's two. I just couldn't pick.)
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm always dying to learn new styles of dance or improve my skills with ones I've tried in the past. I am very confident in teaching the basics of latin social dances, such as salsa, bachata, cha-cha, rumba, merengue, and samba (both ballroom and Brazilian).
What I Can Share with Hosts
I enjoy comparing world views with hosts from other places. I truly believe that engaging in open-minded discussions about topics from lighthearted opinions to the meaning of life can really transform you into a better version of yourself. I love to exchange knowledge as well, and I believe everyone has something to teach.
Of course, I also make it a point to be a respectful house guest, keeping the space clean and helping with some tasks around the house. And every host I stay with always has an open invitation to stay with me in my home when they travel, even if I'm not set up for hosting most people.
