Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To find myself, to make new friends and change the world positively in the process.
ABOUT ME
I am a small redheaded character (aka "FunkyPunkyG"). I like talking, learning, traveling and making friends (and I love cats!). I am a freegan, who likes to live on the the fringes of society as much as humanly possible. Volunteering is something I enjoy, as a way of giving back to society. I have lived for four years with the Los Angeles Catholic Worker, an intentional community based around volunteering and service to the homeless of our city (among other activism). I am a full-time volunteer when I am in that community .
I left home when I turned 18, to travel on the road with friends. My parents support me and my ideals 100% (though they still want me to come home!). I have been through at least 1/2 of the States, and have spent time in Canada, England, Australia and Kenya. Kenya was my favorite major trip.
PHILOSOPHY
Life is meant to be shared. There is so much we can do (anything we want!) if we let go of society's expectations of us. Do unto others as you would want done to you. Give freely and receive freely (the basics of Freeganism).
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I would like to participate by building friendships and getting to know the project. I can't participate financially, but in whatever others ways I can help, I will.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
The guy who introduced me to this site is a pretty cool dude, who let me stay at his place for two weeks and did a lot for me in the years we have known each other.

Music, Movies, and Books
Not so much into movies, but Seven Pounds was good, and I always love Shrek. I like Pearl Jam, John Rueben, my friend who goes by "jesuschristians dot com", Gaiatribe, and lots of other good music I can't remember the names of right now. I read non-fiction, love fantasy science fiction, and of course the "Lord of the Rings". I like rock music, alternative stuff, conscious hip-hop and grunge.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Two of my trips come to mind. I think the best thing I have ever done is travel to Kenya for three months and volunteer at a community center that works closely with primary schools in the area. The children were amazing.
The other amazing thing was the time I lived absolutely without any money for two months in Spring of 2008. We traveled from San Jose, Ca to Portland, OR without a cent. The transit included hitch-hiking, train-hopping and lots of walking. It really opened my eyes.
