About Me

Hey!
My name is Dunja (feel free to call me Iva if it's easier for you haha).
I'm half Slovak, half Macedonian. A teaching student as of September. I also teach English in an academy in Bratislava. It might seem like I'm all about that teacher life but I actually want to get into med school, I just didn't study hard enough last year.
To keep me sane in this whirlwind of responsibilities I like to mix it up by going on spontaneous little vacations, hiking, skating, singing and learning as much as I can every single day.
I like all kinds of concerts and parties and can dance both the night and morning away.
I also try to be politically active for I believe that in order for democracy to work everyone has to play their part even if it's the "insignificant" role of a mere citizen.
Ecologically friendly diet (mostly plant based)
In the belief that sharing is beautiful, I am grateful to any and all who will share their home with me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I usually don't plan my vacations aka I don't really have the budget to get hotels and I absolutely hate Airbnb for the impact they have on the locals so this seems like the best way to go.
Bonus: I get to meet the locals and not steal their houses and skyrocket their rents!

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC
I don't really have favourite bands or artists since I adore almost all music. Anything from classical like Satie, Liszt to Nils Frahm to classical like Guns and Roses, AC/DC, Pink Floyd or ABBA and The Smiths. From the current musical production I prefer indie and electronic music but I won't sit still listening to some good rap.
MOVIES
John Hughes movies will forever be my biggest comfort, otherwise I'm fairly uneducated in this region (open to suggestions and lectures)
BOOKS
I mostly read textbooks but when I get a chance I like classic Slovak literature from the early 19th century.
The only writer I can say I like, because I've read enough of this books and actually remember that he wrote them is Paulo Coelho who for some reason gets a lot of (imo unnecessary) hate.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went on a three week vacation to Slovenia and Italy, that I payed for all by myself, at the tender age of 17.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am an official English teacher and speak a few languages... I can also teach you how to sew a button on.
I like to learn a bit of the local language whenever and wherever I travel.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook and share jokes, food, wine, random animal fun facts, music recommendations and smiles.

Albania, Austria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Italy, Macedonia, Montenegro, Netherlands, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia
