About Me
*Update*
We were back from our year long trip in March 2016. In Nov 2016, we welcome our new baby girl.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am born and brought up in Singapore. I was trained in social work and special education. I used to teach in a special school for four years to students with special needs. I love overland travelling and trekking. I enjoy meeting new people and getting to know them and their culture. Loves to learn about the history of every country I visit.
We are currently travelling with our kids (son - 5 years old and daughter - 2 years old) from Mar 2015 to possibly Mar 2016. We wanted to bring our kids to travel before my son attends Primary school in 2017.
We have been travelling for more than 10 months. Since 6 March 2015, we have visited South Korea, Japan, China, Mongolia, Russia (Trans Mongolian Railway), the Baltics (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania), Finland, Norway, the Balkans and we are back to Schengen Europe now. We have started to travel by tandem bike and child trailer in Finland and Northern Norway. Due to our 90 days Schengen visa expiring, we had to exit Norway and went to the Balkans. We have visited Bosnia, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia by cycling. We took a ferry from Durres, Albania to Bari, Italy. We plan to backpack in Europe before returning home in Mar 2016.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
We love travelling and we would like to meet people who share the passion for travelling. We would like to meet new friends when we travel.
My husband, Sean and his friend, Swee Kian had cycled from Arctic Circle, Finland to Singapore (Equator) from August 2004 to January 2006. During their 18 month cycling trip themed "arcticirclequator", they were being hosted by many families. The link to their cycling journey is http://blog.treeinlodge.com/about-2/
We have hosted travellers in our Singapore home via Warm Showers and Couch Surfing. It was an enriching experience for us and for our kids. Interacting with fellow travellers makes travelling less daunting and more possible for us, especially with kids. I admit that it was through the sharing from our guests that gave us the confidence and courage to embark on this journey of ours, that is to travel for 6 to 8 months with our young kids. We are on the road for 10 months now, this is possible only because of the hospitality and help from the people we met along our journey.
Our kids, Yi Ken and Yi Xi also enjoy meeting new friends when we host and when we were being hosted.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Not really amazing, but i went on a 5 month long volunteer and backpacking trip alone in 2005. Fell in love with overland travelling after that. We are currently travelling with our two young kids and we plan to travel for six to eight months, and possibly 1 year.
