About Me

My name is Max - I'm an amateur podcast host and the Education and Events Coordinator at my local Food Co-op

I live in Pullman with my wife, Cassie, and our cat Lydia. We moved here in 2014 so Cassie could pursue her Master's Degree at Washington State University, and we've both just begun our careers - hers as a teacher, mine as a communications manager.

We love TV and Movies as well as Hiking and Camping. We are kind of messy but we keep a comfortable home.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We like to travel but we don't like how expensive and impersonal Hotels and Motels are, so couchsurfing is a great way to overcome that. We want to host because we feel that if we intend to use the service, then we should be giving back as well. We like having guests, and so does our cat.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm really into soundtracks and other instrumental music, but these days if I'm listening to anything it's usually podcasts.
Many of my favorite movies are animated features because I love the freedom it gives the directors to realize their creations - movies like The Iron Giant and Princess Mononoke are very special to me.
My favorite author is the late Sir Terry Pratchett, and his Discworld series has really affected me and how I see the world.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Cassie and I moved across the country with just two cars and a bunch of stuff. That was a pretty huge undertaking, but very worth it in the end. We got to see some of the most beautiful places in the USA, and it was a great experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm not sure how much I have to teach, but I think I have a pretty unique way of looking at the world that might change how you see some things. All in all I'm a fairly low-maintenance person and I like to make people feel welcome so I usually take most of my cues from my guest.

What I Can Share with Hosts

If you want to share some of my interests I'm glad to introduce you to the McElroy brothers, a trio of podcast hosts whose shows have truly changed my life. They are proof that comedy can be positive and still hilarious.
I'm really into literary analysis and am an armchair critic (but I try to be relaxed about it and I still enjoy dumb stuff like The Room). I have some skill at audio engineering, for what that's worth!
