PHILOSOPHY
My friend shared this with me, and I think it sums it up nicely (even if it's a bit grandiose):
Red Brocade
===========
The Arabs used to say,
When a stranger appears at your door,
feed him for three days
before asking who he is,
where he's come from,
where he's headed.
That way, he'll have strength
enough to answer.
Or, by then you'll be
such good friends
you don't care.
Let's go back to that.
Rice? Pine nuts?
Here, take the red brocade pillow.
My child will serve water
to your horse.
No, I was not busy when you came!
I was not preparing to be busy.
That's the armor everyone put on
to pretend they had a purpose
in the world.
I refuse to be claimed.
Your plate is waiting.
We will snip fresh mint
into your tea.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Currently reevaluating how I participate. I've been inactive for several years given various circumstances and now COVID.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I love the CS project! Also, have had amazingly positive experiences staying with hosts.
The only slightly negative thing we've ever experienced via CS was unwelcome advances directed at housemates from a couple surfers. It's not that bad, but it's not really in the spirit of this project, and it can make the experience a bit uncomfortable. Not that you'd pick me as a host based on hookup potential, but I find the use of CS as a hookup site to detract from the spirit behind it.
Otherwise, I have loved the experiences CS has brought us!
