Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My overwhelming experience in Warm Showers and Couch Surfing has been one of friendliness and wonderful hospitality.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have now surfed in France, Begium, the Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary and all over Germany. The overall experience is one of total amazement at the hospitality and generosity shown by all the hosts I have met. It has certainly enriched my life.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

I enjoy escapism movies like the James Bond films. Music I enjoy ranges from Rock and Roll to Mahler but my special favourite is sacred choral music from the likes of Tallis, Josquin des Pres and others of that era. Books are another form of escape for me – historical sagas, thrillers as well as non fiction books

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

In 2008 I decided to travel alone by bicycle from the North Sea to the Black Sea. First, I followed the Rhine from Katwijk, Netherlands to Bodensee, then I rode around Bodensee and finally rode to the source of the Danube, Donaueschingen, and followed it, the Danube, to Constanta on the Black Sea. I met so many wonderful people and still stay in contact.

In 2010, I was again on my bike and travelled to Northern France, Belgium, the Netherlands. Unfortunately weather and circumstances cut short my trip.

I was, in 2012, back on the bike again and I started at Den Haag, rode up the east coast of the Netherlands, through Germany to Putgarden. Over to Denmark by ferry and to Copenhagen by bike. By train to Stockholm, ferry to Gotland and then back to Rügen in the north of Germany. From Rügen to Usedom, Berlin, Potsdam, The Elbe Radweg to Dresden. From Dresden I rode to Leipzig and returned to the UK from there.

2013 and back in Europe this time to ride the Loire Valley. Started in Cherbourg, made my way to St Nazaire then across France via the Loire to Basel, Switzerland. After a train trip to Bonn started riding again on my return to the UK. Aachen. Maastrict and Namur where my bicycle gave up with collapsed bearings.

In 2019 after some set backs in previous years I was finally able to complete the Land's End to John O'Groats ride something I had wanted to do for some time. I took my time, not wanting to break any records, and had a really great journey.
