One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I road-tripped from Portland, OR to Denver, CO with a friend and rode the train back. During my ten-hour layover in Sacramento I happened upon a festival of historical re-enactments and a free movie screening in the Old Town.
In 2009 I hang-glided above the rainforest, hills and favellas of Rio before landing on the beach.
In 2005 I did a six-week summer exchange on Ishigaki, a southerly island in Japanese Okinawa prefecture.I got the chance to see a midsummer village festival. After a humid summer day, villagers from around the island gathered together. Two wooden platforms carried ritual village fighters, held aloft above the onlookers; they mimed a battle by torchlight.
