About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I've come to CouchSurf & chew bubblegum, & I'm all out of bubblegum.

ABOUT ME

I'm a Global History & Geography teacher at a small public public high school in Northern New York. I try to get out into the woods & onto the many rivers around the area as much as possible.

I'm a lover of art and music, hiking, camping and the outdoors.

I've traveled quite a bit around the United States, but not so much around the world. I'm hoping to change that.

PHILOSOPHY

Atithi Devo Bhav ~ "Guest is God"

Who we are is so much more than what can be seen in flesh and bone. We are deeper and subtler than that, and we have all experienced this. We have all noticed that when some people enter the room the mood shifts, there is an energy, a presence about them.

My life is about connecting with people, and places. We are unique perhaps, but we are no different. We are all seeking happiness in one way or another, and if I can bring joy to someone else, that is a good day.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I will be both surfing and hosting as my travels and time allows. The best thing that we can do in this life is to connect with other souls, and that is precisely what I hope CS will allow us to do.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 2004 I attempted to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail and hiked 1300 miles over 4 1/2 months from Georgia to Pennsylvania in the Eastern United States. I stood down longhorn cattle, got caught in a spring blizzard in the Smokey Mountains, ate a 1/2 gallon of ice cream in one sitting at the half way point of the trail, canoed the Shenandoah with my father and several other hikers as a break from hiking. It was one of the most amazing 4 month periods of my life.

In 2008 I spent almost two months on the road traveling the Western half of North America driving a Swami around and aiding him as he brought his gurus meditation teachings to the US and Canada.
