About Me

Hi! I know starting with 'my name is' is very very boring but (as I am writing this) I cannot think of any more interesting things to begin with, so, my name is Daniel Xaverius.

100% Indonesian with pure Bataknese (North-Sumatran tribe) blood from my
Dad and Mom. I am currently in my last year of my undergraduate level.

I like going to new places secluding myself from routine to just be present in unfamiliar places. In real life I am quite awkward at the first encounters. I value physical presence when communicating, I don't like texting (or phoning) that much.

If you were to host me, I do expect some recommendation of good foods and places to visit, but it would be a huge privilege if you accompany me exploring your area (I believe locals know best!)

If I were to host you (I sincerely apologize since I can't host for now since I live in dorm where I can't bring guests from outside) I would bring you to a journey of local dishes. Happy tummy equals to content soul.

I sincerely hope that I can meet people from different places so I can validate that we are just same soul with generosity and kindness wrapped in different cultures.

NOTE: As by now, I am yet to experience the Couchsurfing spirit and desperately looking forward to it. Pretty please be kind when you're assessing my profile :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The best part of travelling is meeting the locals, befriending the locals, and learning from the locals. Couchsurfing is the perfect way for all of this!

Interests

Reading - I read everyday! I spare at least 30 mins to read anything. I buy a new book monthly. I find peace in reading.

Swimming - I am far from sport savvy, swimming is the only sport I do. I was a competitive swimmer in my early childhood and I still enjoy swimming.

Beaches - I prefer beaches over mountains (not that I am against mountains, I've hiked several mountains) I just love seeing the horizon where open water blue meets the sky blue.

Mathematics - People do say I work better with number and I don't deny this. My mind can't stop thinking about number (like I multiply the numbers in vehicle registration number wherever I am walking, or numbers in phone number, etc.) I do rapid mental multiplication.

Music - I play songs in piano instinctively, I cannot read partiture very fast but thankfully my ears compensate that shortage, they work quite fast when guessing notes. I used to play trumpet for a drum corps in my teenage years. I also sing!

Languages - My ultimate goal is to be a citizen of the world and language blurs the barrier between humans.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: People have been saying that I have an extensive breadth when it comes to music, I listen to classic show tunes to drum corps arrangements (but vocal jazz songs dominate my playlist, also, I love Coldplay so freaking much).

Movies: I don't have any particular genre, but I do like Shawsank Redemption and The Godfather Trilogy. I am both Star Wars and Star Trek savvy.

Books: Classic literature and non-fiction works for me. My favorite classic lit is Charles Dickens' Great Expectations and I like books like How Not To Be Wrong: The Hidden Maths of Everyday Life and Freakonomics.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once was a representative singer for Indonesia in International Turkish (languange) Olympiad in song category. I travelled (more like toured, to be honest) the country for about a month singing stage to stage in cities and writing this makes me miss Turkey.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you Bahasa Indonesia/Indonesian Language!

I am forever a student, I always eager meeting new people to learn new (random) things. I love learning trivial facts about cultures and languages.

I can share you my knowledge if the topic is on the table. I enjoy listening stories about people experiencing life more but I don't mind sharing mine, travel and culture wise.

What I Can Share with Hosts

As a host, you might request small souvenirs/goods from Bandung (place where I am currently staying), I will work to fulfill the request (I will still bring you something if you don't specifically request for something, though, it is all my pleasure).

And as a surfer, I will try my hardest to make my stay be pleasant for you to remember.
