About Me

My name is Dylan, I'm an archaeologist from the UK who wanted some adventure in my life so threw caution to the wind and has set off on a three to four year bicycle journey around the world. I've been on the road for a year and a half now cycling over 11000 miles (19000 km) and visited 21 countries, and seen some amazing things.

The highlight of them all has to have been cycling at altitude on the Pamir Highway, where struggling for breath in the thin air while lying in my tent was a surreal experience and the views of Afghanistan and the Hindu Kush will keep me company for the rest go my days.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It's much more rewarding to meet people from the places you visit rather than just pass by in a bubble so I'm Couchsurfing to learn from my hosts and perhaps pick up some language skills and possibly culinary skills also (happy to cook as well as eat!).

Having worked in the heritage sector all my life, I'm aware that tourism can be a force for bad as well as good, so try to travel ethically and engage with the culture I'm submerged in.

Music, Movies, and Books

Live music of many styles, Folk / Dance / Electronica / Funk / all sorts

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I used to live in Beirut, working for nearly three years on the most amazing archaeological excavations in the downtown area. It was this experience that left a lingering wanderlust and desire to do some truly independent travel someday. That someday is today!

Also DJ'd for Jude Law and Nicole Kidman in Romania supporting The White Stripes on the wrap party for Cold Mountain.
