About Me

I'm a recent graduate looking to see as much of the world as I can.

My current travel outlook can be summed up nicely by the words of a hiker I met on the Pacific Crest Trail: "I aim to maximize my experience and minimize my expense."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to travel to new and beautiful places, but I've found that the people I meet are what make the most enduring memories. Also, I like to travel as independently as possible (light tent/sleeping bag), but finding a spot to camp for the night isn't possible in cities. The sense of community is also wonderful when travelling solo.

Interests

I sing and play guitar. I'm a hobbyist photographer/videographer. I also love adventure travel. I've hiked in the Alps, the Southern Alps, the Rockies, the High Sierra, and the Cascades to name a few.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: My personal music collection spans most of the broad 'rock' genre, including everything thing from heavy progressive metal to ambient, sleepy post-rock. Artists such as Bon Iver, He Is Legend, GooGoo Dolls, and Hammock are some favourites. I usually appreciate most styles of music.

Movies: Gladiator, The Prestige, Inception, Lord of the Rings, Cloud Atlas, Anchorman

Books: Lord of the Rings, Treasure Island, anything that sends me on an adventure.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In the summer of 2014 I hiked the entire 4200km Pacific Crest Trail over the course of 4.5 months. It's a wilderness trail along the mountainous spine of the western United States, famous for it's spectacular scenery including desert, forest, and alpine landscapes. I met many incredible people along the way including fellow hikers and generous 'trail angels' whose generosity and hospitality I'll treasure forever. I kept a journal/blog about the experience here:

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm actually a certified High School (Gr. 7-12) teacher, with specialties in Math and Physics.

I'm constantly learning, and hope that curiosity never leaves me. It's a wild, beautiful world out there.

I would be more than happy to sing you a song, share travel stories, clean the dishes or help in any other way I can.
