Sobre mí

Howdy!

//// https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/connie-ann-a/references /////
This is a new account. My previous joint account is linked above ^^^^. You can find more references there from a long backpacking trip I went on through Asia, Africa, and Europe, both hosting and surfing.

I was born in Perth but raised in country Australia. At the moment I am completing a double degree majoring in sociology and screen production. My future aspiration is to produce documentary films.

I am a calm and curious person. I really value learning, whether that be a new skill, new information and particularly new people.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

Couch surfing provides a platform for me to meet and spend time with people when traveling who are genuinely interested in me and vice versa. When "touring" in less familiar places language barriers, lack of understanding and financial incentive can become a barrier to having a positive experience and meeting and learning from local people in a comfortable and relaxed way.

I see couch surfing as an avenue to subvert the barriers I've noted above. It is a pleasure to host and surf with people who share a passion for sharing, learning and enjoying human connection and cross-cultural experiences.

Intereses

Two of my major interests are explored through my university studies. Those being society and culture through sociology, and filmmaking through screen production.

Beyond those two spheres of knowledge, I am a bit of a hobby addict. I love anything that involves movement and expression. I regularly box, rock climb, practice yoga and am currently practicing breakdancing regularly (and poorly). I have also been surfing for about a decade. I'm just a fiend for making shapes with my body!

I really enjoy learning. Studying sociology allows me to delve into politics, economics, culture, psychology, symbolism, identity and power structures in society. This is all super fascinating to me and brings with it an inherent interest in you! Id love to chat about all of these concepts and more and learn about how you and your world view have been shaped by your surroundings.

Música, películas y libros

Finding new music is probably the most exciting and consistent interest I have. I am slowly building a record collection and mixing sounds together that I enjoy. If you are a fellow audiophile id love to share music recommendations and tastes. The genres I explore most are Jazz, Soul, Disco, House, Techno, Hip-Hop, Funk, Afro-Beat, Broken-Beat, Bossa, Indie, Rock, Electro-pop. But I am always looking for new sounds.

I love a good film, and will hopefully make some in the future. There's plenty of directors and great films we can discuss together.

I love a good fiction novel but find my self gravitating toward factual novels and magazines on history, sociology, psychology, culture, religion, and philosophy.

Algo increíble que he hecho

The most amazing experience I've had was in a rural village in India called Bodh Gaya. It wasn't meditating under the tree where Buddha found enlightenment (this was a nice experience), rather it was connecting with the women and children of the extremely small and underdeveloped village where I was couch surfing.

I and some friends started a game of tag or chasey with two or three children, within 15 minutes there were about 40 women and children and total mayhem ensued. We ran and laughed and screamed for about an hour. I valued this experience a lot because of a simple game of chasey cut through the cultural and language barrier between us all, and we all had the privilege of connecting and sharing an experience together.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I can share some knowledge about Australian culture. From an outback and city perspective.

I can teach you surfing! Maybe also some breakdancing moves if you're up for it.
I can teach you about filmmaking and photography.

Id love to learn about you and any interests and stories you have. If anyone can handstand id love some tips on that!

Let's share some nice food, drinks, conversations, and laughter!
