About Me
ABOUT ME
I'm a Nebraska native who's lived all over the country and moved back to my home state a few years ago for a great job in the nonprofit research/advocacy world. I'm very progressive politically and that's very important to me, but so is understanding multiple perspectives and getting to know people who are different from me. Now that I've lived in Lincoln a while, I love this place and am happy to show people some gems I've found.
PHILOSOPHY
"As long as there is a lower class, I am in it. As long as there is a criminal element, I am of it. As long as there is a soul in prison, I am not free.""Better freedom with danger than peace with slavery.""Complacency is complicity.""Above all...we must develop a type of dangerous unselfishness."Stuff like that.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've mostly hosted travelers passing through Nebraska.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Now that I've used it a while, I love the couchsurfing community. Have met great folks through it locally and as a host.
Interests
I love a good hike / camping trip / outdoorsy experience; a good house party / dive bar / game night / dinner party; playing pretty much any sport, especially basketball; doing yoga; drinking coffee to go with a good conversation or a good book; and the word good, apparently. And I'm no politics junkie but I'm pretty obsessed with inequality and what to do about it.

Music, Movies, and Books
Oh geez .This line from under a comic strip describes me very well: "I am a voracious amasser of reading material." Which means I buy new books and save links to online articles much, much, much faster than I actually read them. Right now I am ever so slowly working my way through Infinite Jest. I studied political theory and city planning, so I make some effort to keep learning more about how people live together and how we could do it better. When my brain is dead or wants to be, I also follow the NBA and watch a handful of shows on Hulu. Some of my favorite movies, for many different reasons: Love Liza, Tideland, Rushmore, Safe Men, Maximum Overdrive, Being There, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Fear and Loathing, Fight Club, Machuca, Office Space, Primer, Pumpkin, UHF, Memento, Bridge on the River Kwai, and Frankenhooker.Music: mostly just artists and genres, but also songs, albums, and the occasional piece.
