ABOUT ME
Emma Walter is from Vancouver, Canada, and has travelled to such exotic climes including but not limited to the frigid streets of Helsinki, the American Mid-West, the volcanoes of Nicaragua and the Jungles of Southeast Asia. She travels by foot, air, and bicycle.
Emma is a holds a Master of Publishing from SFU and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University. She makes ceramic objects, strives for good design, devours fiction, tries often to question, and has yet to master a second language. She can handle English pretty well, though.
Once a renown storyteller, she is now a tight-rope walker. She enjoys writing in third person.
PHILOSOPHY
Okay, I'm still working this one out.
The most I can say right now is that I fiercely believe we cannot take things, especially those which are portrayed through our visual culture, at face value. So much of what we see in society as "natural" or "normal" is not necessarily so.
Sharing, making, honest interaction is the way to go.
We should mostly bicycle.
Interests
I get excited when two things- seemingly worlds apart- form a connection through context or concept. To put it a different way, I enjoy seeing dialogues between things that don't obviously, or often, communicate.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
A small island off the East coast of Vancouver Island, dusk and after. A perfect campfire we encircled with a meticulous wreath of skipping stones, merry faces, sweet whiskey, a guitar. We would later, walking home at 4 am, see Venus and Saturn hang above the horizon. The immediate horizon held a glow of the distant mainland, and, surprisingly, quick and quiet branches of dry lightning. We stripped down and ran into the black ocean only to be caught in a soup of a billion green phosphor bodies, marking our paths through the night water as we dove. You looked like an electric bird, wings of your breast stroke illuminated under the top of the water. I followed, gliding there too, and opening my eyes all I could see were stars on my eyelashes and outstretched hands. We surfaced, floated on our backs, toes and pinkies touching. The black sky held a billion blue stars. We didn't sleep until the sun came up.
Teach, Learn, Share
If you want to learn things about art practice, art history, or want someone to listen to you, I'm your gal.
I LOVE cooking and am constantly trying out new recipes/ collaborations (and apparently, I'm not half bad) so I will be happy to cook for you!
I know a thing or two about cycle touring and bicycle maintenance but am always looking to improve my camping/touring skills!
