About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To become the world champion at extreme lounging. This is similar to normal lounging with a stronger emphasis on duration.

ABOUT ME

I'm in the process of moving to Salt Lake City. I'll be doing some archaeological field work out at Range Creek, Utah (http://umnh.utah.edu/rangecreek_home) this summer conducting some surveys and excavations on Fremont Native American sites. Come fall I'll be settling down to start working on a graduate degree in anthropology at the University of Utah

PHILOSOPHY

I'll get back to you on this one...I'm more of a day to day type person.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Once this summer's field work is wrapped up I'll be finding a place to live in Salt Lake and look forward to hosting people as they come through town. In the meantime I look forward to meeting some people in the city who might be able to show me a few cool spots and might even be kind enough to let me crash on their couch/floor as I'm in and out of the field.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm new to the site but I've done my fair share of couch surfing/hosting over the years. A lot of that was in Samoa where I would travel and stay with other Peace Corps volunteers and their families. Likewise friends would crash at my place in the city when they needed to come to town. Lots of good memories. Many involving good food, drink, and music which I consider some of the more important things in life and that I enjoy offering if I'm staying with someone.

Interests

I play a lot of music mostly on double bass and guitar. I also like going to shows and friends' gigs. I enjoy cooking..well I enjoy eating but can't afford eating out all the time therefor necessitating the continual development of my cooking skills. Throw in some outdoorsy stuff, some reading, nerdy NPR programs, movies...you know the usual.

Music, Movies, and Books

Way too many to list (ok maybe I'm just too lazy to think through all of them).

I have pretty eclectic music tastes. Lately a lot of alt country/folk stuff. Here is my Pandora station that I listen to a lot:

I'm a pretty big movie buff. Hollywood, independent, foreign, documentary...whatever as long as its good. I'm a pretty big fan of the Coen Brothers and Woody Allen.

I go through spurts of reading...fairly well rounded but my favorites are probably history and science fiction. Lately I've been getting ready for this summer's work by reading about great basin pleistocene lakes and north american drought reconstruction....it'll be nice to get back to some fiction.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd look forward to sharing some music and cooking with people. I imagine we can both learn something. I've been doing both for a while and find that it usually makes for a good time.
