About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Wandering North America in a decked-out Ford Transit van, not stopping until I'm done.

ABOUT ME

I'm of average height and below average intelligence, prone to dimwittedness and occasional whimsy, flabby around the middle, pointy around the head. I used to write for newspapers but those don't exist anymore. So now I mostly write for magazines, which soon won't exist anymore either. It's entirely possible I'm retired but just haven't realized it yet. So, for now, I'm just wandering until I can think of something better to do.

I've been to Zanzibar and Bosser City. But not on the same trip.

PHILOSOPHY

I specialize in what I do.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I used to let people stay at my house every now and then, when I had a house. I gave them towels and snacks and beer. It seemed like the right thing to do.

But now, I've gone mobile. Have put all my money in a fancy-ass, decked-out van. Traveling the Americas, looking for stories. One of them might be yours.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My extremely limited Couchsurfing Experience has been 100 percent positive. Smart, friendly people show up out of nowhere and share a part of their lives with you. It's quite amazing, really.
Since I've been living in the Traipsemobile, I've couchsurfed at a bunch of places and have not had a bad experience yet. Not one. So, what I'm saying is you could be the first!

Interests

I'm interested in seeing where the road will take me. And whether there will be a place to shower when I get there.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've driven on the Arctic Ocean, watched a basketball game with John Wooden and survived a three-day tour with Molly Hatchet. (Look em up). A rhinoceros damn near rammed my car off the road in Kenya. And I've seen Bob Barker in his underpants. These are horrific memories, except for the John Wooden one. I drove across Labrador and Newfoundland one summer. And to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska the summer before that. I tend to wander off.

Teach, Learn, Share

I like meeting people who are smarter than me, funnier than me, who have been more places than me. Or can tell me stories about places we have in common. What would you like to know about Peoria?

What I Can Share with Hosts

I've been living full-time on the road for 11 years now, seen pretty much all of North America. It's a weird time now, emerging from the pandemic. I'm fully vaccinated, by the way. It was a hard 15 months with public spaces shut down, no bars, no concerts. But I do have tales from the Before times. I used to hang out with movie stars and stuff. And the movie "Bernie," the one with Jack Black and Shirley MacLaine, was about my family. I'll tell you more when I see you.
