About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To help people experience nature and to think for themselves.

ABOUT ME

Nature is very important to me as a source of spiritual inspiration, learning, and renewal. I like dancing, making music, and doing sports much more than watching them. I love digging deep to understand the underlying forces in myself and the world. It all boils down to spirit. Life is at its best when one lives in the moment, with gratitude and passion.

PHILOSOPHY

Here are some quotes I like:

"Be the change you want to see in the world" - Ghandi
"Be kind, everyone is fighting a hard battle" - Plato
"Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing" - Helen Keller
"If you can walk, you can dance and if you can talk, you can sing" - an African saying
"In wildness is the preservation of the world" - Henry David Thoreau

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've never been CouchSurfing, but I've had a few people say at my place.

I did a lot of traveling in the late 70s and early 80s. I used Servas, which is like CouchSurfing without the Internet.

Interests

I love the outdoors: camping, hiking, kayaking, birding. I read a lot of Science Fiction and Fantasy, but I also read many other things including science, spirituality, personal development, and politics.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My year in Kumasi Ghana was an amazing experience for me. The people were so wonderful. It really opened my eyes about the world.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a perpetual student and teacher of Nature. One could spend lifetimes learning its secrets and appreciating its beauty. I'm a student of Tom Brown Jr. and Jon Young.

I also love music. I play the guitar, piano, and Irish tin whistle. I love to sing. I play in a rock band. I write songs too.

I love learning about both science and spirit. Some of my favorite spritual teachers are Caroline Myss, the Dalai Lama, Joseph Campbell.

I'm also a technology geek. I write software for a living. I've started several technology companies and I've worked for some of the greatest technology centers in the world: Xerox Parc, Atari Research, Apple Computer's Advanced Technology Group, IBM Research.

I participate in citizen science projects. This is where ordinary people contribute to scientific knowledge in a variety of ways.

I speak intermediate French. I would love to practice it.

I'm very interested in what people can do to improve the world.
