About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Supporting young people outside the classroom, improving at mountain biking and sailing, researching more about alternative provision (education).

ABOUT ME

I teach, I learn, I love and I share.

I spend time with my boyfriend and friends, socialinsing, doing art and sport. I regularly climb kayak and have been sailing and mountain biking more recently.

My life this last year has become more mainstream, using my skills and knowledge to help young people in a full time day job. Prior to this, I moved about a lot more and explored a lot. For example, I have lived in an off-grid community and volunteered on a CSA (food growing community farm). I would meditate regularly and occasionally host shamanic drumming journey circles. I chose to settle and plant my roots and have been happier for it.

I am interested in education in it's many forms, from classroom education to outdoor education. I like skills swaps like WWOOFing and more casual forms of this. Keeping fit is important to me and I've enjoyed martial arts in the past.

I like to explore new and old places for day trips or longer. My fave old haunt in the UK is Falmouth in Cornwall!

I used to work seasonally as an outdoor instructor doing rock climbing, kayaking, sailing, archery, that kind of thing, in the UK and far far away. I was lucky to travel doing this and have started doing this again recently at an outdoor education centre that has a garden, farm and outdoor activity areas.

I believe that we should try to learn from our experiences. I trust in my path and walk it with a smile on my face :)

PHILOSOPHY

Life is short but wide.

Save the planet, eat yourself.

The unexamined life is not worth living.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've surfed in Melbourne, Nepal, Mallorca, France and Spain. I met up with fellow Londoners for knowledge exchange. Information doesn't just come from books. We are the best teachers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Surfed in Melbourne, met an awesome couple! It really enhanced my trip! There's a photo of the hosts on my page.

Surfed in Nepal which was so good. Felt like I had a new lil bro and sis by the end of it!

I surfed in Melb again which was short and very sweet. Met some facinating people who helped to answer some questions of mine.

Met some people in London. Hosted a German girl here.

Surfed in Palma Mallorca, France and Spain. I hosted a French man and have found my life is blessed by the new people I have met through CS.

I love the experiences that CS gives us. The hosts are wonderful and it's great to go out or kick back with genuine people.

Interests

In my home you will find guitars, board games, card games, a small meditation space, mountaing biking gear, climbing gear, watersports gear and a lack of pot plants soon to be rectified. I'm not a hoarder; these are my regular hobbies!

I've always been interested in other cultures and different ways that people live. I enjoy counch surfing because it is such a window into other peoples' lives which I feel helps the world to feel friendlier, richer and a more worth while home to live in.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery, The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, anything by Miguel Ruiz, My Ishmael by Daniel Quinn (about how society developed), The Little Prince (easy read but makes you think about a new meaningful concept each time you read it. And it has pictures!), Shopping for Buddhas (Funny and accurate look at Nepal, and the irony of shopping for a Buddha). Danny Wallace.
Movies: Comedies like Wayne's World and Zoolander! And films that make me think, like About Time and Boy A. Love Actually is wonderful. I like Garden State and comedies such as Black Books, stand up (Lee Evans!)
Music: chilled acoustic guitar to metal. It's all good. The Mad Caddies, Nahko and Medicine for the People, The Cat Empire, Alanis Morrisette, anything electro swing!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Seeing my school children develop and grow over time.

I organised a charity sponsored walk once. It was amazing to make a difference in the community.

Discovering that love transcends language barriers.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can take you indoor climbing, sailing or kayaking. I canteach you some meditations. I can share the knowledge I've gathered so far on communities, self sufficiency and gardening. I'd like it if you can share similar. I'd love to share music with people who like to jam! Or I'd love to share creation of art or dance with anyone who would enjoy doing so.

I would like to learn more about alternative education, about food growing, land rights, how society developed, more meditation techniques, dancing, cooking and furniture building/DIY.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my food (I love cooking), I can share my culture and my insights. I can teach a bit of guitar, climbing, kayaking or lead meditations. I can share my time and my presence.

Countries I’ve Visited
