About Me

CURRENT MISSION
To stay on my path while being generous with others.

ABOUT ME
I was born to be a father. Haven't planned it well (read "haven't planned at all"), but have two awesome boys, one 22 and one 9.
I'm athletic but also a little nerdy. I work hard and am passionate about acting. I also love to surf and to play music.
My sense of humor runs from whimsical to light sarcasm. I like joking with people.
I grew up camping and roughing it, but recently went to a nice lake house and went jet skiing. That was fun, too!
I have a broad range of experiences, from traveling to meditating, from teaching to working in corporate (Wells Fargo), from teaching martial arts to doing deep tissue massage.

PHILOSOPHY
Share love - love is the only gift that is guaranteed to help other people find their true gifts.
Have a sense of humor - especially about yourself!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Started by hosting. Had some great experiences. Currently do not have a spare couch but can meet for coffee.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Mostly have couch-surfed with friend or friends of friends. I know that the little things count (keeping it neat, doing the dishes, etc.)

Interests

Acting -- I love acting and always jump at the opportunity to play.
Surfing -- Definitely a hobbyist, but would surf every day if I could.
Music -- I like learning new instruments and would like to collect unusual instruments from around the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

Love Steinbeck for literary grace. Also love Tom Robbins for a fun read. Love Gabriel Garcia Marquez for magical storytelling.
Love serious movies with good acting. Cry for any well-made movie about a strong father figure protecting kids or family (Hotel Rwanda, Braveheart, etc). Also love comedies with a slightly twisted sense of humor (Say It Isn't So, Death To Smoochy)
I like rock, classical, alt. rock, anything with good guitar work, anything with poetic lyrics. For dancing I like funk, R&B . . . learned a little forro and like that, too. I want to learn more about Brazilian music.
I sometimes surprise myself by falling in love with a song from some genre I wouldn't normally listen to. The last song that I did that with was Chandalier by Sia. I've listened to a bunch her stuff now. Wow! She is really good.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was thirteen I stayed in a small goatherding community on a fjord in Norway. I got to help with everything from herding to bringing hay down off the steep hills on the edge of the water. I still get a warm feeling when I eat Norwegian goat cheese.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach martial arts -- especially heavy bag work. I can also teach acting (Method or Meisner). I have taught English professionally and now work with moderately to severely impaired youths age 18 to 22.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am always appreciative of my hosts. I can help around the house, help cook, fix something (I've worked as a handyman). I always bring a positive attitude and good cheer with me.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, England, France, Guatemala, Honduras, Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Norway, United States
