About Me

CURRENT MISSION

....to create and explore

ABOUT ME

So i'm from central jersey, in a very pretty part of the state. farms and preserved park land is everywhere. I grew up playing a lot of sports, soccer, ice-hockey, lacrosse, I also rock climb and snowboard. Being active is still a big part of life for me. I've really enjoyed traveling by bicycle over the last 5 years. Ask me about it. I encourage everyone to bike tour.

I'm trying to learn more about whole sytsems design, and rethinking society and our towns. I'm into rethinking the educational system after reading and learning about Summerhill School and A.S. Neill, and also into plants and producing useful things for us humans (food, fuel, medicinals).

My passion is making (hard) cider. I own an antique cider press from the 1850's that I restored using traditional wood joinery techniques. His name is luther. He lives in my living room (when I have one). He's my baby. I'm also into cultivating apples and other perennial crops.

Interests

bicycles, permaculture, fruit and nut trees, making and dreaming about (hard) cider, social transitions, philosophy, art/expression/creating, movement. I like remembering that this is life, and that we are alive. For me, I need to be active in pursuing these things.

In terms of art, I primarily practice photography. I shoot medium format. But I also greatly enjoy writing poetry, especially exquisite corpse with friends, dancing, cooking, baking, listening and making music, as well as building contraptions. I'm a creator.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived, breathed, ate, cooked, learned, taught, slept, laughed, sang and smiled on the hudson river for two months. I was working on a traditional wooden tall ship sailboat called The Hudson River Sloop Clearwater (aka the clearwater). It's inspired by the hudson river sloops that were the only vessels on the river 200 years ago, used for cargo runs up and down from albany to NYC. The clearwater is essentially the mascot for an environmental organization of the same name, and the boats job and the crews is to take people out onto the river. Generally it's school-aged groups and they come out for 3 hour sails. they help us raise the 3,000 llb sails, fish, then we teach them about the life we caught, the river history, life on board, navigation, water chemistry, sail physics....etc. The idea is to get people onto the river, so that they can see the powerful and amazing wonder that it is and begin to care for it.
I was on board for half of the fall 2009 season and it was one of the, if not the most, memorable and amazing parts of living so far. It was such a diverse and new set of activities and facts and experiences that it truly was amazing.
