About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Trying to enjoy snowshoeing but its just not working :(

ABOUT ME

Hi, my name's Eli, I try my best to make everyday fun and interesting, most especially my free time. Oscar Wilde so eloquently once said, "Life is too short to be taken Seriously" so I do my best to make sure that my Raison d'être is not the accumulation of wealth, although that's nice, but rather the accumulation of experience.

I Love the outdoors, hiking and biking, climbing and paddling, a weekend ain't a proper one if you didn't get to enjoy the great backyard that this country has to offer.

I enjoy reading (especially Vonnegut style humour), and love to cook, I'm always listening to music, enjoy playing guitar or bass and you'd have to pay me, a lot, to stop singing. I keep a lot of instruments in my apartment because music is often spontaneous and you never know when an artists is going to walk in the front door

PHILOSOPHY

No matter what, I never let anyone take away my smile. Its the one thing of yours that no one can take away unless you let them, and when you smile, the world always finds a way to smile back. So walk tall and proud, with your head high off the ground.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've only ever hosted, I've wanted to surf, but alas, it just hasn't worked out with my travel plans. I think its a great concept and the CS'rs are awesome folk.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had many surfers come by, all have been respectful, honest and kind. I've learnt alot from each of them, things you can't learn from books.

Just two days ago I had a surfer from Germany, it was really interesting to hear about her experiences canoe tripping in Germany and camping in Death Valley, NV. The things she found astounding were regular things to me, and the parts she found normal and regular were astounding to me:) and I think thats damn cool!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Last Week, Some buddies and I paddled the White River, a river I have dreamed of paddling for years, it is one of this Provinces most extreme, unmaintained, remote and aggressive rivers. Sporting a plethora of multi set class 3 and 4 rapids. Exactly 1 week ago almost to the minute as I type this, I was standing at the top of a 50m waterfall, 1m from the edge. I closed my eyes and felt the wind gust around me and listened to the roar and crash as the water plunged over the lip with awesome power. A couple days later we paddled that river into lake Superior the world's largest lake, it was incredibly humbling to see the White, a river so powerful, flow so majestically to something even greater, Lake Superior. It really puts you in your place.

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach: Climbing technique, Single Pitch Climbing, how to canoe, hike and camp (used to be a river guide), how to cook a few things, basic music theory and string instruments

I'd like to learn just about everything, there are no skills that are of no value, only people who don't find value for their skills
