ABOUT ME

I was born in Ankara, but don't remember it much- left when I was two months old in the arms of my mom, on our way to Canada for my father to complete his doctorate. I grew up in the University of British Colombia family housing in Vancouver and it was beautiful- we had a forest to play in and lots of other children around me. We left Vancouver when I was 5 and moved to Montreal. After 6 years there, we moved to Istanbul. When I was 17 I left to go back to Canada for university and I studied art in Toronto for 4 years. Now I live back in Istanbul floating between my grad school which is on the asian side and my apartment in the european side.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Since I am just starting my account, my experiences are mainly through my friends who I have traveled with. This year we had the most amazing experience with our host in Bosnia- he spent time walking with us everywhere everyday in Sarajevo. We even climbed a mountain (well he ran up the mountain) and the view was incredible and we also went to Tito's abandoned mansion. We spent lots of time talking about his great work with an NGO that fights for a new constitution in Bosnia.It was an incredible experience.

Interessen

All creative, artistic, challenging work in any medium or form. Talking to people who have challenging ideas, being challenged by them...creating community, collaborating and experimenting.

Music- anything from Tom waits, to crystal castles to turkish folk songs. (my favorite is sarı gelin)
Books- Milan Kundera, Gabor Mate, Jonah Lehrer, bukowski, John Dewey.....

Lehren, lernen, teilen

I can share my practical knowledge of several cities (Istanbul, Toronto especially), my turkish cooking, my languages (turkish, french and english) and can also show you how to make molds (from your body or clay) in silicone, alginate and plaster and how to cast in a variety of materials. I can also show you how to make your own inks out of powder pigment, and weld with MIG, TIG or oxy-acetylene.
