About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Enjoying reminiscing about past travels and looking ahead to the next thrilling chapter: graduate school!

ABOUT ME

Obsessed with animals and geeky about musicals.
Wacky, funny, very creative, sometimes I make leaps in conversations that others don't get right away, or I get distracted at a weird moment, but I always get back on track.
I love improvisational theatre and using the spirit of improv (say yes!) in life.

PHILOSOPHY

I try to live in the moment, although I do get preoccupied about the future (even if it's just what I'm going to eat for dinner).
I love exploring but also just enjoying a good book or film. I don't like rushing meals!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I just started couchsurfing while traveling around Australia and love to meet lots of cool people and especially gain local knowledge (sometimes I seem to meet only fellow travelers, although that's also fun).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I stayed with an awesome host in Perth for several weeks, getting to know a lot of fellow travelers and enjoying some amazing group dinners and movie/game nights. It was a blast and I'd love to have that experience again, although my fast and furious visit of Queensland and New Zealand meant that I could only stay for a few days. I also had an awesome time on a few short trips around NE Australia with some folks I met through couchsurfing - so that was a win-win!

Interests

Top three things: animals, food, singing. I really enjoy cooking (and baking especially) and I love trying new foods and tasting ice cream everywhere I travel.
Animals are my #1 passion and I hope to be a wildlife biologist. I've studied squirrels in Canada, monkeys and peccaries in Peru, butterflies in Colorado, and I did bird-banding way back in high school. I worked in the Kimberley in Western Australia trapping small mammals (quolls, bandicoots, rats, other wacky marsupials and rodents). I recently volunteered in Madagascar following lemurs around and learning Malagasy, which was amazing.
I grew up in a theatre family and love acting/singing/improv.
I also love crafts, especially knitting and crocheting and ceramics.

Books: Wind in the Willows, Watership Down, the Princess Bride, Jane Austen, Harry Potter, Tolkien, Good Omens, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, Jane Eyre

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hearing the bizarre whale song of the Indri (the world's largest lemur) in the wild
Finding a kiwi bird (in the daytime!) at Stewart Island, NZ
Cuddling bandicoots in the Kimberley and fending off the teeth of feisty quolls
Swimming with whale sharks off the Ningaloo Reef, Australia
Scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef (plus a diving adventure in another part of Australia, it's a good story).
Climbing the mountain, Huayna Picchu, overlooking Machu Picchu.
Seeing Billy Elliot (the musical) live - amazing dancing!
