About Me

(Scroll down for English)

We are Eduardo and Yusleni, a Colombian couple in our 30s. We has been together for 16 years and don't have children, what doesn't mean we don't like them. We like a lot nature and permaculture.

We traveled from Colombia to Brazil, visiting Ecuador, Perú and Bolivia by the end 2014. We voluntereed in Brazil during a year and by july 2016 went back to Colombia. Then we lived in a ecovillage called Proyecyto Gaia during 6 months, then a time in Tabio and Villa de Leyva with realtives and finally we moved to Gachantivá, Boyaca to a simple house in the countryside. We grow our own vegetables and we have a consulting company called DISIECO.

We are ovo-lacto vegetarian and enjoy cooking, however we are very tolerant with no vegetarians and could be flexible with our diet if there are no veggie options.

We like nature a lot, and that's one of the reasons we studied Biology at university. We are quiet and enjoy quiet places too, particularly the ones far from a city. We also like walking in nature a lot and take pictures of almost every interesting live being and anything interesting we see during our walks. We love to share our knowledge about nature during our walks and how amazing it is. We like camping too.

We prefer non touristic places, eco-tourism, quiet and remote places. We like to know how is the everyday life of people and share experiences. We will be more than happy to cook and share with you and have a nice talk.

We like spirituality and keep looking for our purpose in our lives, happiness and to build an excellent relationship, however a scientific way of thinking is part of our lives too.

We always respect other people and we are clean and polite. We don’t smoke and we don’t use any drug.

Yus: I love dancing. Half of my heart is with belly dance (my passion), and the other half belongs to biology. I love painting, drawing and making my dance costumes. I like to read books and have a nice time talking with someone with a coffee, tea, wine, beer, water... whatever ;). I like to share my knowledge and hear ideas from the others too. I like to learn about other ways to see the world. I love to cook and learn new recipes too.

I speak Spanish, Portuguese, some English and very basic Italian. I would love to practice Italian whenever I have the chance.

Eduardo: I'm very curious and like to learn and teach things all the time. I like to be kind and help people without asking anything in return. I like informatics too and like to talk about it. I could give you a hand with your computer too. I can't rest until my job is done very well. I don't smoke and don't like too much to drink, but that doesn't mean that I don't enjoy a beer or wine with friends.
I like pasta and pizza (Margherita is may favorite) and have incorporated to my everyday food some Asian elements. I like healthy food and sometimes I could be very picky with food, however I like to try new things as a way to approach new cultures. I will adapt to the available food of a place anyway.
I like to talk about biology and informatics, culture of the country I'm visiting, other countries and my own. Also I like to talk about the languages I speak (Spanish, Portuguese and English) would love to teach them. I enjoy cooking and share recipes.
I love walking in nature (over a party if you ask) and camping. I like yoga.
I think that I still have a lot to learn and share.

PHILOSOPHY

Yus: Be happy! Do things with love, because without love you just have a non-sense life. I try to live a very conscious and introspective life. Recognizing the diversity is the first step to respect the others. The change is on our hands, it depends of our actions.

Eduardo: To have a very conscious life. Respect others. A permanent search of my purpose in life and happiness. I'm convinced that changing what is in my hands, the relations with people near me (home, office), the everyday things, even the small ones, is a way to make changes in the world.
To keep learning to be a better person and to have a better life. Reduce waste and save energy. Changing our lifestyle is a way to reduce the impact of humans in our ecosystems. I firmly believe in gender equality.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We get along with hospitality, solidarity and sharing, all of them cornerstones of Couchsurfing. For us CS is much more than a free night, it's a cultural exchange, it's to create new friendships, new friends. It's a network that allows traveling knowing places from a different perspective, away from the standardized and premade tourism.

Interests

Eduardo: I'm interested in permaculture (Bill Mollison and David Holmgreen concepts) walking in nature, photography, computers, image processing, yoga and many other things. I want to grow my own food and sell vegetables to make extra money.

Yus: I'm interested in "eastern" dances and culture and in animal behavior as well.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Yus: my own life, this world and try to imagine the universe...
Eduardo: During a walk on Barro Colorado Island in the Panama Canal, I found a living nest made of ants (army ants) interlocked to form a compact mass that keep the queen (the only ant that lays eggs), eggs and larvae safe inside. It was laying on the ground, which is very rare. All the working ants (workers) were carrying pieces of insects they captured and cut in the jungle and big jawed ants (soldiers) guarding the entire thing. I took a lot of pictures that were not as amazing as to watch it with my own eyes.

Teach, Learn, Share

Yus: if you like to dance I'll teach you what I know and you´ll teach me what you know! ;) I would prefer folkloric dances, tango but I could dance almost anything (please NOT REGGEATON!!). I'm happy to teach about biology, particularly its philosophy and history. I enjoy talking about natural history while walking (as Eduardo).
I would like to practice again Karate-do and learn Tai Chi... and share a good time with people! :)

Eduardo: I know and will be happy to teach you how to grow vegetables, natural history (biology) while walking, Spanish language, how to fix computer problems, put together and take apart computers, how to use a soldering iron, computer data recovery, Word, Excel, Power Point, convert an LP to mp3 or CD, fix a bicycle flat tire, Internet live video streaming, make almond milk, some vegetarian dishes and some cooking tips.

I want to know how to sharpen knives (razor sharp), to make fire without fuel, matches or lighter (use a fire rod), new recipes, how to build an straw bale house, how to plant a crop...

What I Can Share with Hosts

We think that it depends of how our interaction develops. It should be something very spontaneous, based on our interaction. A good chat, cook together and share recipes, a very good time.
