About Me

I live and work most of the year on my wooden boat ZAYANN that we built in Sarteneja 10 years ago (37ft gaff rig). I dedicate to Kitesurfing practice and trips. Since plandemic I stopped my tour operator business. I do sailing trips for other tour operator. I also live in Sarteneja where I have farm land, my workshop, my house and a cabin to host, off-grid. Lots of things to do, never ending. I plant trees, fruit trees, mahogany etc. I'm also interested in Chaya, the Maya spinach, growing, eating, promoting.

I have been a sailorman of the Caribbean, sailed for 5 years in the Lesser Antilles on SCARF (27ft, no engine) since 2002, then sailed to Canada in 2006, Saint Lawrence river, Tadoussac and came back south 2 years later. Since 2008 I live in Belize.

I have French and Canadian nationality. Looking to get rid of those 2 and be Belizean.

I was making web sites and graphic design 20 years ago. I lost most of previous contents unfortunately.

Looking for minimalism, low impact: zayann.org

Interests

I like Arts, wooden boat, traveling on the sea, sustainable way of living and self-sufficiency, social ideology, the history of the heroes that are not in official books: the best of all: A people history of the USA by Howard Zinn or Daniel Defoe and the famous pirates stories...
I read Ivan Illich, André Gorz, Chomsky and Le Monde diplomatique...
I spent a lot of time working on my tropical forest-farm in Sarteneja fascinated by the chaya (spinach tree) that was probably feeding the Maya civilization and strong back (desmodium, for the liver). I don't eat meat, but fish...

Music, Movies, and Books

I love blues, electronic, the process of writing novels. Lately I found that Gauguin is the greatest, I love the women and colors he painted in Polynesia...

I read le Monde Diplomatique, in French since 20 years.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I could say I was crazy to sail from Dominica West Indies to Canada on a 27ft wooden sailboat, with no engine, one stop in Bermuda and Saint Pierre et Miquelon, one month day and night with wales, dolphins, wale sharks, storms, fog, cargo ships and... hope.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love wooden boats and respect the community of sailors and fishermen of Belize especially from my village, Sarteneja and the farmers of milpas. Chaya leaf, a simple solution to feed the world ?

Countries I’ve Lived In

Canada, Dominica, France, Guadeloupe
