About Me

I feel fortunate to have been able to travel some and I enjoy learning about places from local people. We are educators by trade and enjoy learning most of all. As interesting and fun as travel can be, I want to learn from and with other people.

Our family of four is Elizabeth and I with our two boys William and Henry. The boys are a pretty big focus for us right now with one in High School, one Senior and one Freshman. We both work in education and enjoy travel when we can fit it in. I love to cook and spend lots of time coaching, supporting or officiating soccer. Elizabeth is an amazing photographer and terrific child development (school counselor) professional.

Our two sons enjoy traveling around the country and the world whenever we have the chance. We have hosted many people through various exchanges and we also enjoy supporting others when they travel. William is deeply interested in other cultures and people. He spent last summer in Spain and is looking forward to his next trip already. Henry is playing soccer almost every day and studying hard in school.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to learn more about the ways that people live their lives. Places and history are interesting to me, but even more interesting are the people behind the places and that history.

We have been highly rated Air BnB hosts for many years. We have space for people and we have many of the things a traveler(s) might want when on the road. We can put up multiple guests comfortably in our 1,100 square foot first floor apartment. There is a large bonus room, bathroom and separate bedroom with one queen size bed, and two twin size bed options.

We are excited to try this new option and supporting people to stay for free while they travel. I am interested in how people can support each other on Couchsurfing.com.

Music, Movies, and Books

We enjoy a wide range of music, movies and books. I am more focused on reading to learn for the books. Everyone else in the family reads more for pleasure (at least when school is not too pressing).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I grew up in interior Alaska 20 miles outside of the city. As a young person I would dream of leaving rural Alaska but in retrospect I appreciate many of the daily joys from my youth.

Teach, Learn, Share

I work with educators and policy makers in western states to support STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education. I enjoy learning about local perspectives on education and politics.

After a few years doing community organizing work I got involved in political campaigns and policy work. I have run local, and statewide issue and individual political campaigns for cities and candidates. We are all active and engaged in local and state politics.
